Sean Foley Has Thin Skin When It Comes to Tiger Woods Critics

Tom EdringtonMar 9, 2011

Sean Foley should probably have figured this out a long time ago.

Sean Foley should know that Tiger Woods isn't the only one under a microscope these days.

Sean Foley should know that once you enter the whirling dervish that is the world of Tiger Woods, you better have thick skin.

Foley doesn't.

He's not real happy with Brandel Chamblee and Johnny Miller and he took them to task with one of his home-country websites, www.golfcanada.ca.

"They don't know the truth. They don't even have a clue," Foley fired, sounding very much like Col. Nathan Jessup on the stand in the movie A Few Good Men.

"When did Brandel Chamblee and Johnny Miller and guys like that forget how hard golf is when you have conflict and you don't have clarity?" Foley continued.

There's more from the Canadian whiz-kid.

"Brandel Chamblee made 180 or 398 cuts on the PGA Tour. Like, when did this become so easy for him? That's like 43 percent. You're talking about a guy who's missed six cuts in his life. It's just sensational. That's what they do," Foley said of the Miller-Chamblee tag team.

In a pure Lt. Columbo moment, it seems that Foley left out one very, very important Tiger Woods swing critic. And that would be Sir Nick Faldo.

So Sean can froth at Chamblee and Miller, but he's sure left Sir Nick alone. And Faldo's been spot-on when it comes to making Woods his on-air whipping boy. Faldo has thrown out some zingers but apparently Foley chose to ignore those, perhaps because when you look at Sir Faldo's resume, it sure does qualify him to throw a rock or two at the latest travails of Eldrick.

But back to Chamblee and Miller.

Chamblee is very, very qualified to be a critic of a struggling player. A guy who's missed 218 cuts is an expert on struggling. And it takes a struggler to recognize a struggler, doesn't it?

As for Miller, heck, he criticizes everyone. There are no sacred cows with him—never has been, never will be.

Besides, it's apparent that Foley unknowingly placed Eldrick under the bus a few weeks ago when he declared that Justin Rose "is the most complete player I work with."

Zinger.

Foley's also beginning to crank up one of the big verboten acts when it comes to Woods. He's talking.

When a member of the Woods inner circle starts talking too much, it becomes grounds for excommunication by the church of Eldrick.

Tread carefully, Sean.
