Mexico vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina: The Surge of Mexico Continues
Mexico and Bosnia Herzegovina faced each other in the Georgia Dome located in Atlanta, Georgia. The friendly match proved the two teams are total opposites.
According to the FIFA Coca Cola World Ranking (released on February 2, 2011), Mexico is in 27th place with 803 points.
Bosnia Herzegovina is in 42nd place with 583 points in the same ranking. Bosnia-Herzegovina is in fourth place in the Group D Standings in the UEFA Euro 2012 Standings.
The Mexicans also appeared to be better organized in their defense and consistency of play.
Both teams were shutout in the first half while Mexico was gaining strength and Bosnia-Herzegovina was trying to struggle under pressure.
Miralem Pjanic scored the first goal of the game with an own goal in the 48th minute. He felt the pressure of Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez bearing down on the goalie for Bosnia-Herzegovina Kenan Hasagic during a penalty kick.
Pjanic started to panic and kicked the ball into his own goal to the consternation of Hasagic. The errors of Bosnia-Herzegovina also helped in a second goal for Mexico.
Edgar Ivan Pacheco bounced a shot past Kenan Hasagic to lift Mexico to a 2-0 win.
The game itself served as a personal triumph for El Tri and its new coach Jose Manuel De La Torre. El Tri went through a lot of hardship last year with the threat of a walkout and lack of faith in its coach before De La Torre.
It appears that Mexico is now gradually moving forward.
