Super Bowl 2011 Prop Bets: 10 Exotic Bets That Are Locks This Year

Dan TylickiJun 7, 2018

We are under 72 hours from Super Bowl XLV. This means that if you haven't finalized party plans, picked a team to root for, or found someone with at least a 42-inch flat screen, you're running short on time. If you're thinking about putting in a few bets on the game, however, you still have time.

If there's one time where anyone can bet on pretty much whatever they want, it would be Super Bowl Sunday. Whether it's betting which commercial will be considered the best, who will be the MVP or how long the national anthem will go, there are betting options even for people who know nothing about football.

Gamblers will tell us that no bet is a lock. While that's true for issues of luck, such as what the result of the coin toss will be, these 10 prop bets are all under human control and will be locks on Super Bowl Sunday.

10. How Many Times Will FOX Mention Brett Favre?

1 of 10

The over/under on this is 2.5, so if Brett Favre is mentioned three times, over wins. Normally this might be a tough bet, but the Packers are playing in the Super Bowl. Not only that, but Aaron Rodgers is making his Super Bowl debut, and the story of him taking over for Brett Favre and leading the Packers back to greatness will be the story of the day.

This is a lock to go over, and Favre being mentioned six to eight times is far more realistic than three.

9. Will a Punt Hit the Scoreboard?

This bet might sound rather silly, but it's not out of the question. In the first preseason game at Cowboys Stadium, a punt went off the scoreboard. Despite the history, the special teams in Green Bay and Pittsburgh aren't going to try and hit it. This is one to bet against happening simply because, outside of a massive fluke, it will not happen.

8. How Many Times Will FOX Mention American Idol?

3 of 10

This one has no odds on any sites, but it's nonetheless one to consider. After all, the Super Bowl is on FOX, and the channel milks American Idol on whatever shows it can. The Super Bowl will be no different. Whatever the number could be, bet higher. I am just glad that no former contestants are part of the singing rotation this year.

7. Will Fergie Wear a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Outfit?

The odds on this are 5 to 1. The Black Eyed Peas will be performing the halftime Show, and Fergie will be the first female lead on stage since Janet Jackson in Super Bowl XXXVIII. We all remember what happened there.

Normally I would go against this, but there's one huge factor making me support this aside from the game being in Dallas. The Packers and Steelers do not have cheerleading squads. Someone's gotta be a cheerleader since the teams don't have any. Fergie will be their cheerleader, making this a lock.

6. How Many Times Will FOX Mention Glee?

5 of 10
LOS ANGELES, CA - DECEMBER 12: (L-R) FOX NFL Sunday host Terry Bradshaw and analyst Michael Strahan, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital patient Markell and host Curt Menefee share a laugh on set during FOX NFL Sunday on December 12, 2010 in Los Angele

Should I stop with picking on FOX? The channel makes it really easy on those looking for a lock with how it advertise its shows.

American Idol may be its ratings cash cow, but if there's one TV show you see being noted in media nonstop, it's Glee. The fact that Glee is the post-Super Bowl show says that FOX will say it at least 10 times. No matter what the line is, go over.

5. Will There Be a Tie After 0-0?

6 of 10

The odds of the game having a second tie are actually very low (1.2 to 1) and there's a reason for that. The game is expected to be a back-and-forth affair between two teams with very good balanced offenses and dominant defenses.

That's not to say neither team can break out and get a big win. That's still a possibility, but there can certainly be a 7-7 or 3-3 tie to start off the game before that happens. Expect one in the first quarter, even if there aren't any later in the game.

4. How Long Will Christina Aguilera Hold the Word "Brave" in National Anthem?

7 of 10

The over/under for this bet is six seconds. This sounds like a pretty long time, and for holding a word it is. Christina Aguilera usually averages about six seconds when she sings the national anthem, so why would anyone think that she would cut "brave" short?

She may be able to hold the word for around 10 seconds or so. After all, it's the Super Bowl. This is easily over, since if there was any time that a singer would go all out, it's now.

3. How Many Times Will the NFL Lockout Be Mentioned?

8 of 10

This is the last of the "how often will x be talked about" group, I promise. Unlike the others in this category, this one is a more serious and complex situation. The over/under is 1.5 times, and to be honest, this one will be under.

Besides the fact that the analysts will be concentrating on American Idol and Glee, they don't want to continually throw out that this will be the last football game people may see for some time. The pregame show or postgame show isn't the right place for a lockout discussion, so unless they sneak in a conversation during the halftime show, it's not happening.

2. What Color Gatorade Will They Use for the Shower?

9 of 10

This is a surprisingly easy one after considering how many different Gatorade flavors there are. Yellow is the lowest at 3:2 odds, and will no doubt be the color chosen no matter who wins.

Both the Steelers and Packers have yellow as an official color, so there's no doubt that it's the frontrunner. Beyond that, yellow is a frequently used color in celebration, including the BCS National Championship Game this past year, even though Auburn has no yellow in its jerseys.

1. Will a Steelers Player Mimic Aaron Rodgers' Belt Celebration?

10 of 10
ATLANTA, GA - JANUARY 15: Aaron Rodgers #12 and Andrew Quarless #81 of the Green Bay Packers celebrate after Rodgers scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter against the Atlanta Falcons during their 2011 NFC divisional playoff game at Georg

After a touchdown, Aaron Rodgers' signature pose is his now-famous Championship Belt celebration. He is going against a Steelers team that is not exactly known for humility. What will happen when they get a touchdown, or a key interception? That championship belt will come right out as the Steelers pretend to put it on.

If anything is a lock, it's this.
