PGA Merchandise Show Part 2—Drivers
No matter what your skill level, thereโs no doubt you like to hit driver more than wedge.ย Most everybody does. This year, there are an assortment of drivers that could be hit by pros, media members and eventually by the general public at the PGA Merchandise Show.ย
Some hit during Demo Day, which was Wednesday. Some chose the hitting bays inside at the Orange County Convention center. ย
Here are some of the top mentions at the show.
Heavy Driver
1 of 5
From the company that brought us the Heavy Putter, thereโs now the Heavy Driver.ย They also have fairway woods, irons and wedges.ย The clubhead is in fact heavier, but extra weight was added to the butt end of the club to balance it.
The Heavy Driver is reportedly a hot club.
The Heavy Wedge feels like it would make sand shots easier.
R-11 and SuperFastโWhite Out

This past week in San Diego at the Farmerโs Insurance Open, TaylorMade players held a White Out on Thursday wearing white shirts, pants, hats and shoes.ย And they were hitting white drivers.ย
There are two models in the white color palette, the R-11 and the Superfast.ย Lines to hit the TaylorMade clubs during Demo Day and in the convention center were long.ย
R-11s are in stores next week.
Titleist D-3

Titleist has a new driverโslightly smaller at 445 ccโcalled the D-3 that allows loft and lie adjustments to give you the ball flight you want. Titleist calls it Sure-Fit technology.
There is also a D-2 model with a larger 460 cc clubhead.ย It is more forgiving.ย Currently, 100 professionals on tours worldwide are using the clubs.ย ย
Geoff Ogilvy and Adam Scott on the PGA Tour and Rory McIlroy on the European Tour are using D series drivers from Titleist. ย ย
Drive a Lamborghini for Under $300

Lamborghini golf clubs, that is.ย Licensed by the Italian sports car company, Lamborghini, golf has a full line of drivers (two models), irons ( three models), putters ( three models) bags, several models including a new shape travel bag and a super light weight carry bag.ย
Add in shirts, golf balls and other accessories, and the company is getting ready to sprint to golf stores in locations like Las Vegas.ย
The drivers are called the Spyder One and can be had in orange, which is an exact match to the car.ย
Power Pod II
5 of 5
If you have been involved in golf for a while, you may remember the original Power Pod. It looked a little like someone had cut off the end of a large salami and put a stick on it. ย ย The Pod was supposedly an interesting and effective club, but its appearance hurt with purists.ย
Now Power Podโs inventor, Jim Flood, who introduced the graphite shaft and founded Aldila shaft company and Odyssey Golf, has created Power Pod II.ย
The club has a much more traditional look, but has a speed slot in the back which Tigershark Golf said gives it a higherโ smash factor.โ ย ย
Suggested retail is approximately $250.
