Chicharito Hernandez VS Denis Law

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoDec 8, 2010

Sir Alex Ferguson has compared Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez to Denis Law. He based his comparison on his ability to score including the one in which Hernandez used his head in the match between United and Stoke City.

I have decided to make a comparison between the two players from Manchester United. I am taking into account the era in which their professional careers developed.

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez used to play for Chivas of Guadalajara before his transfer to Manchester United.

His arrival at Old Trafford has been marked by fanfare and triumphs. He has scored four goals within ten games during the English Premier League.

Hernandez has scored one goal within four games in the UEFA Champions League. He has been efficient on the field with a total domination of the game and the field.

During his time with Chivas of Guadalajara, the forward scored 26 goals within 64 appearances and was part of a dynasty of footballers which included his father Javier "Chicharo" Hernandez and Tomas Balcazar.

He also scored 11 goals within 20 appearances for the Mexican National Football Team. Hernandez represented Mexico in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The era of Hernandez is only beginning and there will be more that will be written in the future.

Denis Law (also known as The King) signed with Manchester United in 1962. He lasted until the year 1973 with Old Trafford.

He scored 237 goals within 404 appearances as a Forward. During the 1963-1964 season, he scored 30 goals within 41 appearances and was named European Footballer of the Year for 1964.

Law was instrumental in Old Trafford acquiring league titles in the years 1965 and 1967. The last few years were not kind to him as injury kept him from participating in the final of the 1968 European Cup.

He changed from Manchester United to Manchester City and finally retired in 1974. Law held the record for the most FA Goals until it was broken by Ian Rush in the 1990's.

Law also played for the Scottish National Football Team where he scored 30 goals within 55 appearances. He is still remembered as one of the greatest of his time along with George Best.

Javier Hernandez and Denis Law are two great players for Manchester United with different histories. Both have excelled in the sport and Old Trafford.

While Sir Alex Ferguson loves to compare Hernandez with Law, I tend to disagree taking into account the different eras and different styles.

Every athlete have an era in which they excelled. We should also remember that every athlete is an individual with unique talents.

I am of the opinion that Hernandez will continue where Law and Best left off but there can never be a 21st Century version of Law or Best.
