Preview/Prediction

September 01, 2008

Let's get this shindig started! I haven't been this ready for a season to start since...well...last season!

We get to kick off the 2008 season with a classic battle between the Redskins and "Defending Super Bowl Champion" New York Giants.

In the last five matchups between these two teams, the G-Men have been victorious three times, but have only scored two more total points. This could mean we're in for a close one...or it could mean absolutely nothing at all.

One stat that jumps out at me about this matchup is the rushing game. The Giants have rushed 147 times for 750 yards against the 'Skins in their last five matchups, while Warshington (yes, I spelled that right) has rushed 154 times for only 597 yards.

153 less yards on more attempts makes it blatantly obvious that the advantage goes to the Giants on the ground. If New York jumps out to an early lead...it could be a long game for the 'Skins' defense.

Let's see how the members of TSB have this one ending up.

House Of Steel: Giants

Revolution: Giants

encmetalhead: Giants

Amoroq: Giants

NEsince92: Giants

kfkorn: Giants

buffalo29: Giants

buffalogal1982: Giants

senna1a: Giants

Longballer: Giants

Korrupt: Giants

It appears as though the general consensus is that the defending champs will take care of business on Thursday. I guess we'll see how that turns out soon enough.

The past makes no difference now, especially with the Redskins employing a new offensive system. And nor does this "consensus" make any difference, either. I think that you are aware of this, however.

There's no doubt that the easy pick here is the G-Men. But "the easy pick" only makes it easy to "talk" about the game, not to play it. And that's why they play the game.

The Giants will not win...Why?? The last team to beat New York before their super bowl run was the WASHINGTON (not warshington) redskins. Also, the only team that Shockey played well against was the Redskins and with him out of the picture coupled with Carlos Rogers' and Laron Landry's return will expose Eli for the mediocre quarterback he is.

Wait... The Patriots beat them in week 17.

I'm more thinking the Giants will lose because their much weaker pass rush will expose their weak secondary.

They actually played a team known as the PREVIOUSLY UNDEFEATED NE PATRIOTS in week 17 which was their final loss of the season, and don't owrry the Redskins won't win this game. I'll give you just a few reasons:

      1. New coach and staff that have yet to run their offense in a real game in the NFL
      2. Quarterback with plenty of RAW talent who makes poor decisions under pressure.
      3. The Giants secondary is not only improved, but is one of the best in the NFC, with first round Draft Pick Kenny Phillips be compared to your beloved Sean Taylor, and said by several analysts to have an even higher ceiling, better put your WR on Notice.
      4. Just because the Giants lost a Pro Bowl DE, everyone forgets about Justin Tuck, you know, the guy who was all over Tom Brady in the superbowl, oh and Mathias Kiwanuka ain't to shabby on the other side. We will not only survive this injury, but pull together to twint his and several other games this year, we have team UNITY unlike 99% of the othersi n the NFL! Oh and enjoy looking at those 2007 championship banners in the meadowlands, cause its the closest you'll get to the superbowl this year :O)

I'm thinking it'll be close. Both teams have some issues at the moment and I'll save my prediction for my next article :)

It is not the secondary that will be the area to attack, but the linebackers.

The secondary will suck without that superb pass rush. Reporters were constantly talking about how poor the secondary was playing in the first two games of the '07 season. Then the pass rush stepped up...

We will see who is right on this one, but I assure you the LB corp is the thin and will get more and more exploited as the season rolls on (particularly if an injury or two occurs).
