Will the championship scramble also scramble WWE's main event scene?
Ā We are less than one week from the rebirth of Unforgiven.Ā On September 7th a once ho hum pay per view becomes a gimmick show.Ā While we know it's about boosting buy rates and as we'veseen withNo Way out and Night of Champions, it's worked, we mightĀ inadvertently see a positive side effect.Ā With the huge amount ofĀ injuries to the upper mid card and main event mainstays like Cena, Orton, Edge and Kennedy people who thisĀ time last year you would have never thought would be in a title matchĀ are being given the ball. Today I'm going to attempt to lookĀ into which newbies toĀ the main event scene areĀ likely to make the most of it.
Starting with the ECW

Ā Much like with the original ECW it continues to be the land of the misfits yet unlike the original ECW there is no clear cut stand out in the crowd.Ā In which case it makes everyone in the championship scramble for the brand an underdog of sorts.Ā Ā Yes I realise Matt Hardy since the draftĀ is being groomedĀ toĀ be the top face in the company but heĀ definitely doesn't have the fan following of a Triple H or even a CM Punk.Ā That shouldn't hurt his chances in this matchĀ and in fact should work well for Hardy since he seems to stand out the most when in gimmicky type matches.Ā Win or loose as long as this match is given fair treatment unlike Summerslam Matt Hardy should come out like gold by the time this not so impressive lineup of an ECW title match is said and done.
Ā The Smackdown side is on paper what would be the show stealer.Ā Take away the Champion himself Triple H and you probably havethe four wrestlers with the most potential to be huge stars in one match.Ā You've got Jeff Hardy who the WWE had been testing the waters on a title run prior to his last suspension, MVP who has been compared to the heel version of the Rock by many,Ā Shelton Benjamin who's a human highlight reel in any major match he's been in and The Brian Kendrick who has always been athletic and now has the JBL like makeover that can carry him over the top.Ā Unless Triple H somehow dominates this match making everyone look bad this match can be everything Smackdown needs to turn themselves into a major player going into their change to My Network TV.Ā
Ā Finally we have Raw who everyone in their match is a main event veteran but the champion is still the clearcut underdog.Ā This will probably be the last match of the night and it will deservedly be there being the only match of this type with a clear cut storyline setup.Ā Seemingly the main thing being setup is who will finally knock off CM Punk from his unlikely championship run.Ā Hopefully what will happen is everyones pre setup feuds will take priority over winning the belt and CM Punk will win without having to do too much work continuing in his Edge like rise on Raw. In turn CM Punk and the entire Smackdown roster by the end of the show should lookĀ great by the nights end.Ā Right now we barely have an hour and a half worth of wrestling planned for the pay per view.Ā Here's hoping the WWE decides to A)Ā Make the ECW title match "Extreme Rules" and B) Add a Womens title scramble with Mickie James, Katie Lea, Beth Phoenix, Jillian Hall and Kelly Kelly and a Divas championship scramble with Michelle McCool, Victoria, Natalya, Maryse and Maria (or injecting a returning Gail Kim in either) and then we'll have a real complete card.Ā
