What's Wrong With Professional Wrestling Today?
If you're reading this article...then you're a pro wrestling fan, that's obvious. If you're reading this, then you're also probably not too happy with the way things have been going lately in the pro wrestling world. Between frequent injuries and wishy-washy storylines...it's almost becoming a chore to watch wrestling sometimes. I'm just gonna go down the list (in no particular order) of a couple of things that are bothering me in TNA and WWE these days.
(TNA) Samoa Joe:Don't get me wrong, Samoa Joe is an amazing athlete. Back when I 1st started watching TNA about a year and a half ago...I was always rooting for Samoa Joe (altho can somebody explain to me how he was ever X-Division Champion??). I kept thinking that TNA was screwing him over by not giving him the NWA/TNA Heavyweight Championship. Then he started 'teaming' up with 'Big Sexy' Kevin Nash. Nash then became Joe's mentor and guided him on his quest to for the gold. Then I stopped watching TNA for a while, and I come back and all of a sudden Samoa Joe's the TNA World Heavyweight Champion! I was excited and happy for Joe, TNA had FINALLY given him the belt that he had deserved for so long. Joe seems to be more involved 'fueding' with Sting and Kevin Nash than he is with his next opponent. Take a look at the 4 Ways To Glory Match at No Surrender for instance. He's been going on and on about Sting this, Sting that, Sting, Sting, Sting...all about Sting. Then tonight he gets pissed off at Kevin Nash and gets involved in his match, costing him a spot in the 4 Ways To Glory match. FOCUS ON THE TASK AT HAND JOE!!

(WWE) Lack Of Depth: SummerSlam...The Biggest Blockbuster Of The Summer? More like the biggest letdown of the summer if you ask me. The best match was the Hell In A Cell match between Edge and the Undertaker, and even that was mediocre. Sure it had it's exciting points (Taker getting speared through the cell, Edge getting chokeslammed through two tables)...but it was actually a fairly boring match. Like somebody else said in an article on here"...It was basically a TLC match that took place inside Hell In A Cell..." I was expecting Undertaker's usual mind games leading up to SS, having the lights go out during Edge's mic time, having those sketchy video clips, having lightning strike him down from the rafters...something at least. Yet we get nothing. The only hype about this match was by Edge and the announcers...that was it. Batista VS Cena...once again, hardly any time to build this 'huge' match up. It was supposed to be a monumental match, a clash of the titans, a match of the ages...I'm still waiting for that match. I think they're both getting over-used a little too much, but at least Batista is still healthy. The WWE only devoted two weeks into building up this match that they should have spent two months on. Granted it was a fairly good match (I was really impressed and surprised with Batista's use of submission holds), but it could've been much better. What do they do to hype up the match? They throw them into at World Tag Team Title match with Team Priceless. How stupid is that? At first I thought it would be exciting, having Tag Team Champions battle each other in the ring. Then I realized...didn't they do this two years in a row at WrestlMania? WrestleMania 21 opened up with with WWE Tag Team Champions Rey Mysterio VS Eddie Guerrero. WrestleMania 22 headlined with World Tag Team Champions (they didn't even bring their belts to the ring) Shawn Michaels challenging John Cena for the WWE Championship. I agree with several of the articles I've seen on here...this match should have been saved for WMXXV.
(WWE) Injuries:I know that this isn't 100% the WWE's fault...but they've got so many people that are injured right now it's rediuclous. Here's a list of some of the people that are out on injury or just coming back from injury:
Rey Mysterio; John Cena; Mr. Kennedy; Umaga; Melina; Carlito (I think, haven't seen him in a while)...I know there's more I just can't think of them right now.
From what I understand, Edge and Undertaker are also 'sporting some injuries' but they're not on the DL for them. Having as many superstars out with an injury that they do right now, they are left with a major void on the roster...who's gonna 'pick up the slack' of those that are out? Who's gonna 'step up to the next level'? I think the Championship Scramble is a good idea. At first I thought it was stupid to have all 3 brands do the same thing on one PPV, but then it hit me: this is a good chance for some people to step up on ECW and SmackDown! even if they don't win the title...a good showing in a championship match can do wonders for their career. Look at the Haryz this year. Jeff challenged Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble, and he beat Triple H in order to get there. While Hardy obviously didn't beat Orton...he had a very good match and I was quite impressed with it. Matt Hardy has been challenging for the ECW Championship as of late. Granted the 'match' he had with Mark Henry at SummerSlam was a complete joke, he did much better the following Tuesday on ECW. But he DID win a Fatal Four Way against The Miz, John Morrison and (I think) Finlay to get there. **I'm sure I'm wrong about Finlay...so please fill me in because I can't remember who the 4th participant was in that match.**
(WWE) SmackDown! Divas:I'm not gonna go into this topic, I already wrote an entire article about this (see WWE Divas VS TNA Knockouts...Who Will Reign Supreme?), but this is an issue I feel very strongly about...especially after seeing TNA's promo tonight about their Knockouts. Saying things like "We're not barbie dolls...", "We don't have pillow fights...", "We're not parading around in our lingire, that's for divas...". That was a DIRECT shot at WWE if you ask me. People are saying that there's going to be a war between TNA and WWE like there was with WWF and WCW. If there is going to be a war, I think it's still a few years off...but they're certainly making things known. Remember when the James Gang became the Voodoo Kin Mafia? VKM (Voodoo Kin Mafia) VS VKM (Vincent Kennedy McMahon). Now they're taking each other's 'unwanted' talent. Sound familiar?
There's more...but I'm going to leave this alone for now. Leave comments please.
