Fire Up The Grills and Get Your Face Paint Ready Cause College Football Is Back!

I don't know about you but ever since the Celtics took down the Lakers in game 6 of the NBA Finals I've up untill day one of the summer Olympics I was searching for meaning in the sports world. There was, for two weeks, the European Championships which Spain won in dramatic fashion and there was some fantastic soccer played but, it was only two weeks long. I mean yes of course there is always mid-season baseball for those who can stand to watch an uninteresting game for 2 and a half hours. I'll take my info for baseball on sportscenter thank you very much. Then of course all the sports world was held hostage but the Brett Farve situation in Green Bay which was the headline story of every sports talk show in the country for close to a month.

But starting tonight all sports fans minds can be at rest, well so to speak, as the college football season kicks off. I like many others are hoping for a season with the drama as last season. LSU fans are praying the season does not start for them the way last season did for Michigan fans with a lose to Appalachian St. Last year produced some of the best football drama in history as the team whomever held the number 2 ranking in the country fell time and time again. Stanford going into L.A. and dehorsing the mighty Trojans on a last second drive. Navy ending a 43 game losing streak to Notre Dame, beating the Fighting Irish 46-44. Experts on every sports talk show were left scratching they're head as the national rankings began to look like a Picasso painting. At one point in the season with the USF Bulls as the number 2 in the country. And for the first time in NCAA history a team with two losses(LSU) would win the national championship. 

This year will hopefully bring more of the same drama with unexpected upsets, heated rivalrys and of course the fan favorite for the past 4 years, the BCS buster! Here are a few things to look for this year:

1. SEC domination: this conference has so much talent and the teams are just so much faster than other conferences. An SEC team has won 3 of the last 4 national titles. With 4 teams in the preseason top 10(1.Georgia, 5.Florida, 6.LSU, 10.Auburn) looks as if the SEC will be represented in the national championship game again this year.

2. BCS Hopefulls: Of course you can never predict a BCS buster but the two teams that have stood out the most since last season are Fresno St and BYU. Fresno has a much harder schedule playing Wisconsin and at Rutgers. While BYU plays host to UCLA and travels to Washington. Both teams return their QB and are talented on both sides of the ball. This will no doubt be an interesting story to follow as the season advances.

3. Back to Back?: While many of the Heisman finalists return to their schools this year a man they call "superman" down at Florida actually won it last year and returns this year. Tim Tebow became the first Sophomore to ever win the coveted Heisman trophy a year ago and with many players in the rear view mirror how can Tebow not be the front runner going into 2008.

4. BCS Trouble: Finally at the end of the season when we all look at the rankings I'm praying with every ounce of me that something happens that is so bad that sends the BCS out the door and puts in a much needed playoff system. Every year we as fans go through the same thing seeing the BCS fail again and again. Even though it wont happen until the BCS contract is up there is no harm in praying it will.

So with the season upon us everyone put on your jersey's, paint your face, fire up the grill, call over some friends and go support your team!!
