The Ultimate Fighter 12: 5 Things We Learned from Last Night's Episode (Ep. 9)

Will AndersonNov 10, 2010

Here we are, ladies and gentlemen. The home stretch of Season 12 of TUF begins with Episode Nine, and make no mistake, this installment is all about action and nothing else.

We managed to learn quite a few things in this episode regarding the start of the quarterfinals, and I am sure that most of you who didn't get to see it will wish they had.

GSP Changes Up the Training Strategy

It was particularly interesting to see how Georges St. Pierre sat his boys down and went over the game plan for the next remaining weeks.

He let them know that the focus would no longer be about trying to bust out hardcore training and conditioning sessions anymore; they would now transition to refining their individual technique and strategy going in to the quarterfinals and finals.

Yet again, a great example of GSP and Greg Jackson's coaching at work.

Jonathan Brookins Keeps a Cool Head Amongst the Chaos

2 of 6

Let's just get this out there right now, Jonathan Brookins will be in the Finale. Throughout the entire season, he's displayed solid striking and submissions.

Add to the fact that he's been one of the more low-key guys in the house and you have the makings of a really great fighter who is focused.

Jonathan Brookins: An Example of What Happens When You Stick to the Game Plan

In the first quarterfinals matchup, Jonathan Brookins took on Sako Chivitchian( Team Koscheck).

This looked like it would be a knock down, drag out-ype brawl but ended up being a strategically fought battle in which Brookins was able to keep Chivitchian down on the ground and work his way to a submission victory, which proves that listening to your coach is a good thing.

Cody McKenzie: An Example of What Happens When You Don't Stick to the Game Plan

Sometimes, you can be too confident. Prior to his quarterfinals matchup with Nam Pham, guillotine choke artist, Cody McKenzie spoke about how confident he was he could beat Pham, and in the first round of their matchup, it looked as though his prophecy would come true.

However, by Round 2, the Alaskan native began deviating from his game plan and left himself open to a vicious body shot victory by Pham.

Aaron Wilkinson Would Be the Last Member of Team Koscheck To Get in with a Win

5 of 6

With the quarterfinals pretty much stacked with members of Team GSP and a loss by Cody McKenzie, Team Koscheck has one more chance to have a even split going into the semi finals.

The British import, Aaron Wilkinson, will be facing off against the very dangerous submission specialist Kyle Watson, and it looks like Wilkinson will have his hands full with a man who has a 12-6 pro record.
