Another Great Performance From Kevin Pietersen and Co.

Yoosof FarahAug 26, 2008

It was another great peformance by the new-look England side, as they thrashed South Africa by 10 wickets.

Undoubtedly the star of the show was Nottinghamshire's Stuart Broad, who took career best figures of 5-23, in helping dismiss the visitors all out for 83 from justĀ 23 overs.

Proteas' captain Graeme Smith won the toss and chose to bat on the fast, bouncy Trent Bridge pitch. It was a costly decision, as Broad completely ripped apart South Africa's batting with an incredible spell of four wickets from just 16 balls.

The promising young bowler claimed the wickets of Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, JP Duminy, and captain Smith. The second of these wickets was Broad's 50th one-day international wicket in 34 appearances—an impressive milestone that was only managed by James Anderson before him.

The visitors, who slumped to a rather surprising defeat at Headingley on Friday, looked just as bad yesterday as they slumped to figures of 53-7 and then 72-9, before Andrew Flintoff finished them off by claiming the wicket of Dale Steyn, giving the Proteas a very poor score of just 83 all-out.

They were then given a lesson on how to bat by England, with Matt Prior and Ian Bell showing the visitors how it was meant to be done.

The reply was largely dominated by Prior, who hit 45 not out off just 36 balls, which includedĀ six fours and one six. Ian Bell also wanted his say in England's reply, and smashed four boundaries to take his total to an unbeaten 28.

And it was Bell who finished off the Proteas by putting the ball out for four and out of reach from the South Africans, to give the home side an impressive victory by a crushing 10-wicket margin.

So, another impressive win for England under the new captaincy of Kevin Pietersen. A fantastic return to form for Nottinghamshire's Stuart Broad, achieving an incredible milestone and aĀ brilliant career best, and another fine game for Harmison, Flintoff, Bell, and Prior.

So what do you think of the new-look England side? Can they continue with such good performances? How much better will Stuart Broad get? Will South Africa fight back in the series? Or will England now take it comfortably? Please feel free to leave a comment.
