Luiz Felipe Scolari: "I Need To Work More On Nicolas Anelka's Head"

Bela TrimmelAug 15, 2008

I may be twenty-four, but there are times that I have the mind of a fourteen year old. I read this tag line on Soccernet and about spit my beer across the room. "Well, this should be an interesting article," I thought to myself as I dug in.

I figured that this was simply a slip of Scolari's English skills. The new gaffer for the Blues plans to get into the head of the French striker who will be heading the Chelsea offense on Saturday due to the injuries of Drogba and Scheva.

One of Scolari's worries is that Anelka, who is pushing his thirties, is too quiet. He seems to be talking about quietness off the practice field and the pitch itself. What does it matter if the man is mute from the time his feet cross the touch line of the practice field until the game on Saturday?

There is no real problem with Anelka except the simple fact that he never really got played under Grant, for some strange reason. I had vivd dreams of rubbing my Chelsea jersey in my friend Josh's face, a Man U fan, at the conclusion of the Champions league because I had strong belief that Grant would play Anelka with Drogba up front.

With midfield service provided by Lampard and Cole, the game would have been a cake walk.

There is nothing wrong with Anelka, he scored four goals against AC Milan earlier this month. While Milan are an ageing team, four goals is no easy task in a game.

Scolari's attempt to work on Anelka's head could further distance the player. I doubt that will happen but if it does, where is Chelsea going to be in offense? The good gaffer needs to leave the mental help to the professionals and should stick to coaching. If the boy doesn't want to talk, leave him be.

The boy is a bit special to say the least and if played more this season will help in the gaffers goal of winning an unprecedented quad.
