Yankees Set Example By Sending Down Melky; Waiving Sexson

The New York Post reports that the Yankees will demote Melky Cabrera to Triple-A and waive Richie Sexson prior to Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

According to the newspaper, Brett Gardner and Cody Ransom will be called up from Triple-A to fill their spots on the roster. Cabrera is hitting just .242/.296/.337 in 117 games and Sexson has hit .221/.321/.381 in 96 games overall, including .250/.371/.393 with the Yankees. Gardner has hit .296/.414/.422 with 37 steals in 94 games at Triple-A.

This move doesn't really help the Yankees much but it does set an example to players on the team whom are struggling.  Also, the Yankees don't have much to lose at this point, being how far they are down in both the AL East standings and the Wild Card standings.

Remember last season, the Shelley Duncan call up really helped the team out greatly and gave them a huge boost of energy in September, we'll see if the same happens now.

The only thing is that Melky's glove in Center will be truly missed because he is one of the best defensive center fielders in the game.

Gardner on the other hand shows blazing speed and is easily the fastest player on the team. 

Richie Sexson was hardly being used as the team will now go with Jason Giambi and Wilson Betemit at first base.  His biggest moments with the Yankees was a base hit his first at bat and a grand slam against Texas.

In other news, Joba Chamberlain will begin throwing Friday and could return as a reliever to close out the season to reduce stress on his shoulder.

Phillip Hughes has pitched well in Triple-A and could be called up and used in the rotation really soon.

This has been a season to forget for the Yankees organization and Yankee fans but all of that could change in a heart beat, you just never know.

The Yankees are now at home to face the Royals for three games, they are looking to turn this thing around immediately.
