Sometime in the early A.M. today Jeff’s Mariners Fan Blog passed the 10,000 views mark in my Rookie year as a Baseball Blogger. I wanted to say thank you for all of you who have come by during this season. This has been a long rough voyage for us all and there have been a few days when I almost jumped-ship! But with six games left I think I should be able to hang in there till the Good Ship Mariners drops anchor for good this Sunday.
I really had no idea what I was getting into this year when I got caught-up in all the offseason excitement and found myself at spring training pretending I was a journalist of sorts! Yes indeed I was not sure what all this blogging business was about but it seemed like the perfect hobby for me and the Mariners were going to go all the way this year anyway so I figured I better get onboard!
Well as it turns out writing a Blog is almost like a job that you don’t get paid for! But it has been fun and though 10,000 hits over this season isn’t much compared to the established bloggers, it seems like a lot to me! I have learned a lot about the Mariners, researching, social media, some sabermetrics and have enjoyed the comments from the readers most of the time.
I also want to thank everyone who has syndicated my blog at the Seattle PI, Bleacher Report, Mariners Mayhem, Buzztap etc. I suppose my blog has been read way over 10,000 times if I were to include those other sites but there is no way of telling so I will settle for the nice round number of 10,000.
As much as this season has sucked, it has turned out to be the perfect season for an Expansion Blog. I mean let’s be real, besides the Griffey, Cliff Lee, Milton Bradley and Josh Lueke type drama, this season has been over since sometime in June. So I have been able to get away with all sorts of crazy posts that have been fun to create. In addition it has been great to finally have a place to talk openly about the absentee owner and the Howard Lincoln/ Chuck Armstrong nightmare. I am pleased to see the FireNintendo group emerging here in Seattle and suggest you check out there website at : www.firenintendo.com . While I may not have had the experience and access of the mainstream media, or the established blogs, I know that on more than one occasion I went out on a limb and took positions that were not popular at the time and some of you objected in your comments. This sort of exchange is a healthy part of a democracy, and as odd as the whole blogosphere thing is , if used with some restraint I believe it can be a positive force for progress and change in the world at large, as well as the fun little world we call Mariners Baseball.
I have not quite decided what next season will bring as I need to upgrade my site with some more gadgets etc., if I want to stay in the game. But I am going to wait and see what the Mariners themselves do, if they expand payroll a bit to make some moves this winter, then I will invest accordingly with a new theme and more options for the readers. If you have not already subscribed via a RSS feed or a e-mail please do so. Thanks again to any or all of the 10,000 viewers who have helped inspire me to continue writing about the team I love here in my Home Port of Seattle…..http://jeffsmariners.com
