Manny Pacquiao: Latest Ring Ranking Shows He's Still Pound-For-Pound King

Leo ReyesSep 24, 2010

Ring Magazine latest pound for pound rating shows Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao still holding on to the top spot as of September 21.

Undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr  remains in No. 2 position despite his win over Shane Mosley via a unanimous decision last May 2.

Boxing critics say Mayweather should have snatched the top spot from Pacquiao if he had an impressive win over Shane Mosley. Many fans were dismayed with his lackluster performance against Mosley.

Taking the third spot is Juan Manuel Marquez who exhibited a fairly impressive performance with his win over Juan Diaz recently.

Surprisingly, Nonito Donaire is still holding on to the fourth spot despite his less frequent engagements, though he had an impressive performance in his fight with Herman Marquez in July which ended in TKO.

Yahoo rating for September placed Donaire in the 10th position.

Fifth placer is Paul Williams, who fought Kermit Cintron in May, while Sergio Martinez took the sixth place after winning over Kelly Pavlik via a unanimous decision last April.

Ponsaklek Wonjongkam of Thailand continues to be in the magic 10 by taking the No. 7 spot, along with Fernando Montiel of Mexico, who placed eighth in the rankings. Montiel and the Thai pride did not appear in the Yahoo Sports pound-for-pound ranking.

Newcomers in the Ring ranking are Wladimir Klitschko and Timothy Bradley.

Klitschko is fresh from his victory over Samuel Peter about two weeks ago, while Tim Bradley fought Luis Carlos Abregu last July 17, winning via a unanimous decision.

Juan Manuel Lopez and Andre Ward appeared in the Yahoo Sports rating but did not appear in the latest Ring Magazine pound-for-pound ranking.

Meanwhile, pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao has not moved in to his training camp in the mountain city of Baguio in the Philippines. His trainer Freddie Roach has arrived in Manila last weekend with two of Pacquiao's sparring partners.

While Pacquiao is attending to his duties as a newly elected congressman, Roach and his team are working out with the Filipino boxer at the Elorde Gym in Quezon City.

Pacquiao and his training entourage are finally moving up to Baguio over the weekend.

On the other hand, Pacquiao's most desired opponent for next year, Floyd Maywether, Jr., has been on a silent mode since his he created international media firestorm following his arrest in Nevada after his alleged assault on his former girlfriend Josie Harris, mother of three of his children.

Pending court cases could be the reason for the apparent news blackout.
