The NFL provides limos and body guards so players can go out and not have to drive drunk or be armed. With those resources at ones disposal driving drunk or carrying a weapon is just stupid.
Braylon Edwards was arrested for driving (with two other Jets in the car) with his blood alcohol at twice the legal limit. I refer to the first paragraph to express my opinion as to "your boy's" intelligence quotient. However, even more mentally challenged is the NFL's policy which states that the team cannot suspend a player for a first DUI offense. Not only did Edwards place his life and the lives of the public at large by driving drunk at 5 in the morning, but left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson and defensive end Vernon Gholston were in the car with him at the time.
Drunk driving is a potentially life threatening act for which there should be no "Mulligan." Furthermore, D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Vernon Gholston are complicit in the idiocy for allowing this multiple offending knuckle head to risk their lives.
Rex Ryan responded decisively. He said that Edwards will play on Sunday, but he will not start. What is this Junior high? At some point the game, any game, MUST take a back seat to societal responsibility. These are grown men with cab money and a limousine service at their disposal. Does Rex Ryan think not starting is an appropriate punishment for disregarding the law, the lives of innocent people and their own careers?
Call me old school but I would have taken the start from Edwards' for costing to team 15 yards for taunting while they were 0-1 and still down by 8 points to a division rival, the Patriots no less. Drunk driving should have cost all three of them the game, albeit with pay because the NFL thinks the first drunk driving charge is no big deal.
