At Night of Champions we all saw the WWE’s Women’s title thrown to the wayside for a fancy looking purple thing. I said in my preview of the show that I thought they would do that, and that it would be a terrible thing for it to happen.
I guess I wasn’t the only one. Mickie James, former WWE diva and women’s champ, recently commented on the issue. She was upset about the move; and truth be told I can’t blame here. The Women’s title has been a staple for women’s wrestling in the WWE shortly after the company was founded.
We have seen many great lady grapplers over the years to hold that belt. We have seen the likes of Moolah, Wendi Richter, Trish Stratus, Lita, Ivory, and many other greats. Now we are stuck with a Diva’s title with no history and class.
Here is what James had to say about the issue
"The retirement of the Women's Championship breaks my heart,"
"The nostalgia and the legacy built off the backs of every woman who paved the way for women like me... Who gave it credibility... Honor... Prestige... & Truth!
"For every woman who's carried the championship through the generations... Who know the power & history you feel in holding it high above your head.. That can never be replaced by anything in my mind... In my heart... I am truly honored and forever grateful to be among the women who have graced its presence... Thank you..."
