Random Thoughts

St. Pierre totally dominated Fitch. The only time Fitch was competitive was during the standup, and he never seriously had GSP in any trouble of being knocked out. It was a clinic from start to finish. Takedowns, great standup, and excellent ground control.

GSP is the man that always comes to mind when I think of the words "Ultimate Fighter". He just keeps getting better and better. His wrestling is off the charts. His standup is excellent. I'm not too excited about the B.J. Penn matchup, though. I'd rather see him take on Anderson Silva instead.

One word describes the Lesnar fight: beatdown. He came out, threw some crazy flying knee, landed an explosive straight right hand, and beat Herring down. Somehow he managed to completely impress me while doing nothing unexpected (flying knee not included).

Brock probably created a new legion of haters with his win. He showed some severe disrespect of Herring, pushing him after rounds and doing the lasso routine after the fight.

It wasn't anything I didn't expect; Brock has never been known as being a polite humble type. In fact, having followed Brock since his collegiate wrestling days, I expect his level of disrespect to rise as he wins more fights. Some guys are GSP, and some guys are Brock Lesnar.

MacDonald-Maia was pretty exciting for a fight that took place mostly on the ground. The hype for Maia was appropriate; Macdonald was no slouch on the ground, and it didn't even matter. Maia needs to keep working that standup, though.

I feel like I was misled watching Huerta fight all this time. He looked very unimpressive against KenFlo. I expected Kenny to win, but I don't even see where Roger was all that competitive. The fight was mostly one sided: With Kenny giving, and Roger taking.

I don't know where that Evensen guy came from, but I got the feeling he was a sacrificial lamb. If he was brought in to make Kongo look good, he did his job.

Somebody tell Gamburyan that it's a good idea not to rush out and swing wildly at your opponent. Right around the time Rogan was saying that rumor has it Manny couldn't take Emerson down, Emerson dropped him and quickly finished him. I guess Manny figured if I can't take this guy down, I better come out swinging.

I wonder what's next for Lesnar? He just beat a real guy, not a Kimbo Slice opponent. It will be interesting to see what direction they go with him next. Maybe Kongo?

As for Florian, if B.J. Penn is moving up, what's next for him? Obviously not a title shot. Maybe Tyson Griffin?

Did anyone else notice the referee poke Herring in the eye right before the fight? That was pretty weird, and Herring looked a little pissed about it. Not saying that cost him the fight, but shouldn't he have got some time to recover or something?

Tonight's card was packed full of intrigue. GSP and Penn are now on a collision course. Lesnar finally made Dana White not look so dumb for backing up the money truck. Florian just lowered the number of zeroes on Huerta's next contract. Oh, and UFC 88 is in my town on Sep 6.

That's right, ATL baby. If you're going, look for the guy with the Punishment Athletics shirt on that's probably going to get thrown out by security.
