Each week during football season, we will supply underdog picks that have the best chance of cashing your tickets. For this Weeks match-ups, we have three rabid dogs in college football and two in NFL football, with one of ‘em going Monday night.
Duke (+5.5) over Wake Forest: Duke had a very balanced attack vs. Elon last week, and is capable of a repeat performance here. They recorded 192 yards on the ground and 350 in the air. Granted, Wake Forest comes in off of a 52-13 rout, but that was over tiny Presbyterian. The Demon Deacons did nothing but run the ball in that game, pounding out a whopping 415 yards! They will not be able to dominate the line of scrimmage this time around though.
Colorado (+10) over California: Dan Hawkins probably needs a winning season at Colorado to save his job, as the Buffaloes have been a major bust since he was hired away from Boise State. That pressure to win is compounded by the pending jump to the Pac-10 next season, but so far, so good as Colorado passed their first test vs. Colorado State last week 24-3. California beat Cal-Davis 52-3, but that is not saying much and they are now facing a determined Colorado team that would love to beat a Pac-10 school on the road this year.

Florida State (+7) over Oklahoma: Oklahoma had much more trouble than expected vs. Utah State on opening weekend, escaping with a 31-24 victory in a game in which the Sooners outgained the Aggies by just one yard 422-421. That poor defensive showing should be a major concern here, as the Florida State offense clicked on all cylinders last week in a 59-6 romp, albeit over Samford. Also note that Mark Stoops calls the defensive plays for Florida State, so he comes in very familiar with Big bro’s offense.
Denver Broncos (+3) over Jacksonville Jaguars: Kyle Orton had a great preseason for the Broncos, putting the supposed quarterback competition in Denver to bed. He should be able to exploit a weak Jacksonville pass defense. Meanwhile, the Jaguars simply cannot be trusted as favorites, as they are on an unbelievable 0-10 run against the spread in this role! To top it off, Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio would have probably been fired by now if his contract was not guaranteed, as this franchise has been a money pit for owner Wayne Weaver.
Baltimore Ravens (+2.5) over New York Jets: The New York Jets have already been crowned as Super Bowl champions by the media, but they are probably the most overrated team in the NFL, and they will usually get the best effort out of their opponents who are sick of hearing the hype. The Raves are more of a threat to go to the Super Bowl than the Jets are, as new additions have made this the best Baltimore offense ever since the move from Cleveland way back when. Back the Ravens on MNF!
