With news making headlines about England's star striker's alleged romps with prostitutes, it can now be understood why Wayne Rooney performed so poorly in the World Cup.

The news is that Rooney had paid thousands of dollars to have sex with prostitutes while his wife Colleen was pregnant with their first son Kai.

The news made the Sunday headlines as it was alleged that Rooney hired prostitute Jenny Thompson on several occasions and paid thousands of dollars for his sexual romps. He carried on with his romps even when his wife was pregnant with their first child.

The striker's previous incidents while at Everton do not do him any good. While at Everton, he admitted to having sex with prostitutes as a 16-year-old. Hence, such news does not really come as a shocker for people who knows him. But what makes the allegation shocking is that he hired the prostitute even when his wife was pregnant with his first child.

The player has traveled with the squad to Switzerland for their Euro 2012 qualifier and will be rested if manager Fabio Capello thinks his striker's mental condition is not good.

Rooney's poor performance during these year's World Cup might also be the result of his sexual misadventures. His concentration might have been distracted by Jenny and it could well be a reason.

It was a mystery for everybody as to how Rooney could perform so poorly in the World Cup after his superb performances for his club a month before the World Cup journey. With the revealing of his closet skeletons, everyone will have their answer.

Though Rooney's teammates and sponsors have decided to stick with him, it remains to be seen if his wife is able to forgive his sinful acts and accept him with open arms. Manchester United have also given support to their star striker and will be hoping he ends his misadventures and gets back to playing football in the field and not off it.
