Carragher is not happy with Liverpool's chances this season

Jamie Carragher has written off Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season, and says their best chance of winning any trophies will have to come from one of the cup competitions they are in.

The northern side finished a measly seventh place last season, which is their lowest finish in a decade.

This season will be hard for them. Their best hope in the Premier League is to finish in the top four, but Manchester City and Tottenham will be pushing the and punishing the at every opportunity.

Carragher is not pleased about the absence of a winners medal for the last few years. "People have said, 'You’ve done this and that for Liverpool,' but we’ve not won a trophy for four years and that is annoying me a little bit," he said.

‘I certainly don’t want to go on another couple of years not winning one before I finish at Liverpool. I don’t see any reason why we can’t win a trophy this season.

"The one I haven’t won is the league but I suppose that will be very difficult this season going from seventh last season.

"But I see no reason why we can’t have a good go and have a trip to Wembley."

Carragher has been at Anfield since 1996 and has racked up more than 400 appearances. To mark his lengthy career at the club, he played on a testimonial game against an Everton XI. He has persuaded to play be Liverpool greats such as Michael Owen, Jerzy Dudek, and Luis Garcia turning out.

He may have the right idea about Liverpool's chances this season. It was back in 2005 when they were champions of Europe, yet five years later they can even make it into the cup.

Liverpool need to pull something special out of the bag this season if they are hoping to get back into the Champions League spots.
