Brett Favre Gets Traded to the New York Jets
Okay, I was wrong.
I was so sure Favre would end up in Pewter and Red that I wrote about it a month ago. We had to put the caveat "(Humor)" in the title because it was being picked up as a true story...not a good commentary on our reporting standards these days, and Lord knows there have been enough conflicting reports on this subject.
I was all ready to write my "I told you so" article, but instead, Favre was traded to the Jets. Are you kidding me?

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
No details have been shared about the compensation Green Bay received, beyond a "conditional 2009 draft pick." However, according to ESPN, the Jets offer was better than the Buccaneers, and New York management convinced Favre they were worthy of his services.
Apparently they did so, in part, by pointing out that there were endless marketing opportunities and a chance for him to be the face of that franchise going into a new stadium in 2010. By that time, Favre will have both retired and un-retired at least once.
That makes it sound like Favre was driven by money or ego; winning certainly could not have driven him. Granted, the Jets are in the weakest bottom three in a division in the league, but they will lose twice to the Patriots and probably once to the Bills.
Favre will also have to learn a new offense for the first time in 16 years, and he's going to tarnish his image. There is no way he has even close to a Pro Bowl year with those receivers and that running game.
Thomas Jones went down as one of the most disappointing offseason acquisitions all year last year, despite being acquired for a fourth-round pick.
That's why Tampa Bay made a lot more sense.
He would only learn a few new formations, terms, and other such nuances. He would work for a coach he knows and make the playoffs. As a bonus, he would get a chance to stick it to the Packers in Week Four, which seemed part of his intent, considering his initial insistence on going somewhere else in the division.
However many positive things I have to say about Favre the player, he has struggled to make good decisions with the football. And these Jets look like the 2005 Packers. With that cast, Favre felt he had to do it all and forced the ball into coverage, resulting in 29 interceptions.
This will give all the fuel to the naysayers that say last year was an anomaly. At least for those of us asserting 2005 was the anomaly, there will be the Packers' struggles this year to back our point.
Oh, yeah, that's not a good thing.
