Broadway Brett!: Jets Land Favre

Micheal RobinsonAug 6, 2008

Move over Tom Brady, there is a new quarterback in the AFC East.

I am sure most Jets fans out there are in a good mood right now, I know I am.

The man in green in yellow is now going to throw away the yellow for white.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈

Late Wednesday night, Brett Favre was officially moved to the New York Jets for a single-draft pick.

The Jets had a pretty big sized hole at Quarterback with a banged up Pennington struggling last season and Kellen Clemens as the back-up.

They now have one of the greatest to ever stand behind center, Brett Favre.

I was sick of hearing about the Brett Favre saga, but being a Jets fan, the media can talk about Brett Favre all they want when he is connecting with Coles for a touchdown.

FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer broke this story.

The compensation isn't known, but it's believed to be a single draft pick that increases in value depending on Favre's success in New York. He should immediately step in as a starter, but Favre probably won't reproduce last year's numbers. The team will likely have to release Chad Pennington to make space under the salary cap.

The Green Bay Packers released the following statement:

“It is with some sadness that we make this announcement, but also with the desire for certainty that will allow us to move the team and organization forward in the most positive way possible.”

Jets chairman and CEO Woody Johnson also issued a statement early Thursday.

“I am looking forward to seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets uniform,” Johnson said. “He represents a significant addition to this franchise, and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible product on the field.”

With Favre being the latest addition to a Jets field that is full of new faces, they are in prime shape to do some damage in the AFC East.

Nose-Tackle Kris Jenkins and Line Backers Calvin Pace and Rookie Vernon Gholston will be new arrivals on a defense without Jonathan Vilma who is now on the New Orleans Saints.

Favre has plenty of protection with key offensive line acquisitions in LG Alan Faneca and RT Damien Woody were added to the fray during the off season.

Wide Receivers Laveranues Coles and Jericho Cotchery are most likely jumping for joy right now as their value is higher then ever with an arm like Favre now throwing to them.

Also, TE Dustin Keller and Brett Favre could hook up plenty of times for scoring opportunities.

As I am doing now, Jets fans and staff could get ahead of their self in thinking it could be a magical season, but why not be happy about this, its hard not to be.

Favre has thrown for 61,655 passing yards and 442 touchdowns.  He has scrambled for 1,786 yards and 13 touchdowns.  Jaw Dropping numbers for the man who started his NFL career in 1991 with the Atlanta Falcons.

Only playing one season with the Falcons in which he appeared in 2 games and never completed a pass.  He went to Green Bay in 1992 where he became a legend.

A trade to the Jets has probably broken a lot of hearts in the state of Wisconsin tonight.  If they are sad, all I can say is they have a lot of cheese to go with their wine.
