Franco Di Santo: The Future looks Bright!
OK we all know about what's been happening with Chelsea so far this season with players going and coming the signing of Deco the possible loss of Frank Lampard to Inter and the legend that was Makelele leaving to finish his career at PSG.
But the biggest story linked with club in my eyes is the continued links with new strikers as a replacement for the unfortunateĀ Shevchenko, the ever so whiny Drogba and the inconsistent Anelka.
So far this season we've been linked with two of the biggest names in the Spanish Primera league the ever impressive David Villa who had a class Euro Championship and the Brazilian Robinhino who can play on both wings as well now don't get me wrong both players are fantastic and any team would welcome them!
But theĀ question is do we really need them?
My answer is no! we really don't need them and this kid is the reason why, his name is Franco MatĆas Di Santo born April 7th 1989 in Mendoza, Argentina although he holds an Italian passport.
He started his career with Audax Italiano where he made 62 appearances and scored 16Ā goals that may not sound fantastic but take into account that he was a regular first team player from the age of 15 onwards and amassed a total three assists in his time there the picture looks a bit different.
He's been a regular with Argentine Under-20's and is likely to make the step up to the Olympic squad.
He was announced to the world as a Chelsea player on January 25th 2008Ā in a reported 3.5 million GB Pound deal which saw him join the reserves. He then proceeded to impress the staff at Chelsea with his training ethic and on his debut scored an equalizer to draw the game with Fulham reserves 2-2 and then scoring again the next game against Reading.
But its for the Tottenham Hotspur reserves game he showed his real ability when he scored a magnificent hat trick including a penalty and a wonderful volley into the top left, he finished the season on a high hitting seven goals in eight games as well as four assists.
This season though it seems he may be a contender for a first team place after Mr Scolari included him on our pre season tour of Asia in which he scored two in two against Guangzhou Pharmaceutical and Chengdu Blades. And he did shine in both games showing an unusual quality in South American footballers the good old English center forward mentality of getting in the box and muscling his way to goals showing great strength and determination.
He can scoreĀ with either head or foot, but that's not all Mr Di Santo hasĀ got in his box of tricks he shown that he has got a fair bit of pace as well as the dribbling skills that get him into scoring positions.
All in all Di Santo has the potential to be an absolute class player for the Blues and a future Argentine star with such raving references coming from coach's all over world including the Argentine Under-20's Head coach Sergio Bastia who claims he sees a stronger Messi in Di Santo the future truly is promising for the youngster.
