Arsenal: Bacary Sagna Wants "Malicious" Arsenal

Shyam ParthasarathiAug 3, 2008

Bacary Sagna has made his intentions clear for next season. The Arsenal right-back has stated that he wants to see Arsenal being more "malicious." But, I don't think that he meant malicious as the interview was conducted in French. I think that he must have meant "more aggressive."

Either way, his comments bode well for Arsenal and for Gunners fans.

After defeating Real Madrid 1-0 in the final Emirates Cup match of 2008, Sagna told L'Equipe, "We feel rather positive. We played well against Juventus. Even if there were many young players, they showed that they had the level. And today, we beat Real Madrid. We should not take these meetings as a benchmark, but it gives us confidence."

He went on to state his bitter disappointment at the way Arsenal finished last season's campaign, and also echoed his thoughts as to what he felt needed to be changed to bring some silverware to the Emirates this season.

“Everyone was disappointed to finish third and to leave the Champions League like that (against Liverpool). We will try to make the football as beautiful season as last year, while being a little more malicious and being concentrate in the important moments, while playing less. We showed our qualities at certain times, but perhaps a too much. That made it trickier for us. But, that's the way Arsenal play. Sometimes, it will be necessary for us to know how to slow down the rhythm.”

Sagna also went on to express his pleasure at how well new signing, Samir Nasri had integrated into the squad,

"He has integrated into the team very well. He played very well on Sunday. He showed that he can adapt to English football. His adaptation is taking place naturally. The fact that there are many French players here has helped him too. Thus, there is no problem."

In a certain sense, it would be nice to see Arsenal discover the side which will allow them to play stylish, yet functional football.

With one of the team's senior players sounding so resolute, Arsenal fans should be feeling confident ahead of next season.
