Boston Celtics, Paul Pierce

IconThe Celtics went 3-0 last week, beating the Warriors, Lakers, and Bobcats to bring their league-best record to 11-1.

It made for the best Thanksgiving since 1986—and left Boston fans believing that this could be one of those seasons.

You know what I'm talking about—those seasons where injuries are scarce, the breaks go your away, and some useless white dude at the end of your bench starts dating a Victoria's Secret model.

It's the NBA's version of the Perfect Storm—and the Celtics look to be smack in the middle of it.

The Celtics ran the perpetually-running Warriors right out of the building on Wednesday, stopping them from doing the only thing they do well: scoring.

This may be the best defensive team the Celtics have fielded since the Bill Russell Era—and they proved it once again by making Baron Davis and Co. look like the Washington Generals.

Friday night's win over the Lakers proved just how far the C's have come in a year.

Last season, Kobe was serenaded with chants of M-V-P during his only visit to Beantown. This season, he was soundly booed by the Boston faithful every time he touched the ball—even in the fourth quarter.

Somewhere, Red Auerbach has to be proud.

Kobe aside, the C's dominated a game that wasn't as close as the 107-94 final score. Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins led the way with 21 points each.

At one point, the C's had assists on 31 of their 39 baskets. The victory bumped them to an '86-like 7-0 at home.

And they saved the best for last.

Saturday in Charlotte, on the second night of a back-to-back, the Celtics pulled out an improbable win as time expired.

The C's struggled all night, getting outrebounded 41-34 and allowing the Bobcats to shoot 48 percent from the field. They turned the ball over in key situations and generally looked tired and uninspired for most of the game.

With the Bobcats up two and needing only to inbound the ball to secure an impressive early-season win over the best team in the league, things looked bleak for Boston.

Then it happened...again.

Stop me if you've heard this one.

The Celtics stole the inbounds pass. Eddie House deflected it and Paul Pierce came down with it—before finding Ray Allen for a three as time expired.

It was Allen's only three-pointer in six tries.

That's the type of year it's been.

As it stands, things are looking awfully familiar around Boston these days. The luck of the Irish, apparently on sabbatical for 20 years, seems to have returned.

What a week.

  4. Tanks for the kind words Thomas, appreciated. and to my paranoid anonymous friend, my deepest apologies. While my paranoia has waned as I approach 30, it's still there. There is no excuse for my ignorance other than the fact that i'm still drunk on the Garnett trade.
