Should William Gallas Continue as Arsenal's Captain?
Who should be Arsenal captain this season? Everyone has a different opinion on the topic. This is mine.
William Gallas was and is a great footballer. He was never for sale at Chelsea until he told them he did not want to play for them. Even then, if it werenāt for Ashley Coleās transfer then he may be in the stands at Stamford Bridge.
It's funny how no one complained about William Gallasā captaincy when we were five points clear on top of the Premier League. Gallas was considered inspiration and another great Wenger signing.

After the Bāham game and Gallas perhaps breaking up and losing the plot shows that footballers are human. People who criticize Gallas for this have to look at themselves and think if they have ever made any mistakes.
After this game, Gallasā season was ruined by enormous pressure by the media and pundits. I think this is what made his season go per shaped.
I truly believe that William Gallas was a great captain in the time Arsenal were on top; however, there are improvements he can make. I think he needs to become more vocal and be more like a Tony Adams character and organise the defence more.
We must remember this is the same William Gallas who was first choice for Chelsea along with John Terry for years and who kept the great Thierry Henry quiet when Chelsea played Arsenal. I think another season may benefit him and Arsenal football club.
Another option, of course, is Kolo Toure, who I believe should have been given the armband last season once Thierry moved on anyway. I think Kolo had been at the club for a while and knew what it meant to be an Arsenal player and was apart of the unbeaten season and run.
He has become very vocal on the pitch and seems to have a good private life and is never on the front pages or the back for the wrong reasons. Kolo is a winner and has the will to win. He would have been a great captain and perhaps is our next captain, but it may be a season away.
Cesc Fabregas is pure inspiration, determined, young, loyal and has natural ability and also the potential to be the best player in the world. The PFA young player has wowed pundits and fans all over England with his buzzing performances and has the natural attributes to be an Arsenal captain.
However, I do not feel he is the right person for the job as yet. I feel too much pressure can ruin a player, and I think Cesc needs to win more medals and really assert himself as one of the best players in world before becoming Arsenal captain.
Patrick Vieira was one of the first names on the team sheet and had entered the peak of his career when he was given the captaincy. The same went with Thierry Henry, and the same should be done to Cesc.
Other options are less likely. Perhaps Clichy could be a future captain. Gilberto was always someone considered but was not given the role and has now left the club.
So I think Gallas should keep the captaincy for another year, and a well motivated William Gallas will be more beneficial then a low William Gallas. Ā
