Arsenal: Players, Money, and Contracts

Something that really winds me up is when players like Adebayor, Hleb, and even Flamini start acting like they're the greatest players in the world. Adebayor has really wound me up by demanding £120,000 a week. I think that’s a disgrace.

What has Adebayor done to demand that vast amount of money? If anyone has a realistic answer, please contact me, because one good season does not warrant that much money. Yes, Adebayor did score 30 goals, but it was only one season and it was still a trophy-less season.

In my opinion, just 30 goals do win you tittles. An Arsenal forward needs goals, assists, good build up play, and loyalty. Adebayor does not fit into that list, YET.

You think of players like Thierry, Dennis, Wrighty, Paddy, Bobby, etc. These players DESERVED their contracts. Thierry Henry had eight seasons of scoring, assisting, and winning trophies. He got his best contract, worth what Adebayor wants, six or seven years into his original contract.

A wise man once said to me that you will miss players a few years after they leave; not straight away. I think that wise man was spot on. Seeing the antics of Adebayor, Hleb, and Flamini it makes me wonder if they have seen Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, and Robert Pires.

With these players, you never really felt like they would demand big amounts of money or demand a move. Yes, there was always gossip about Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry, but at the end of day, they all went when Arsene Wenger decided and was happy to let them go.

Arsene Wenger has proven that he knows how to make a team. He did it in 2002 and in 2004. In 2004, in my opinion, Wenger,s greatest ever achievement, he created the best team in the world at the time. The players Wenger bought, Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Freddie, and Vieira become the best in the world. They all showed loyalty, and this is what some of the current players need to learn.

I could nearly guarantee that if the likes of Adebayor, Hleb, and Flamini, along with Fabregas, Rosicky, Toure, Clichy, and Van Persie, that this team could be just as good.

But if this is to happen, players need to be loyal. They need to believe in Arsene Wenger and respect their contracts. I really think that current players need to look at the past and respect their contracts, because certain players are really winding me up!
