Speed is the Key to NASCAR's Future

Mary Jo BuchananJul 19, 2008

Speed is the key to NASCAR's future - at least Scott Speed that is.Ā  Speed won Friday night's ARCA REMAX seriesĀ race at Kentucky Speedway in a close duel with another NASCAR future star Sean Caisse.Ā  Speed had the lead late in the race, but Caisse was able to take it away in a closeĀ pass,Ā as he was much better on the longer runs.Ā  But, as is common in the ARCA series, there were a number of late race cautions that severely jumbled up the running order.Ā  Unfortunately for Caisse, he had a terrible re-start after one of those cautions, spinning the tires and slowly coming up to speed.Ā  Scott Speed took full advantage, sailing past Caisse on the outside. Even a green, white, checkered finish did not allow Caisse the time to get past Speed and Speed's Red Bull team ended their successful evening in Victory Lane.

Although Scott Speed has the perfect name for racing, his personality is like no other.Ā  He is quirky and irreverent, even painting his toenails Red Bull colors for good luck in his races.Ā  For future NASCAR stars, this behavior is unusual to say the least.Ā  But Speed is his own driver, running with a team that has its own flavor and style.Ā  This team, including driver Speed, live out their sponsorship, always running at hyper speed.Ā  And to say they are pumped up to try to win the series championship is an understatement!Ā

While Speed shows off his skills in preparation for not only a run at the ARCA REMAX series championship, but also for jumping to the next level of racing, Sean Caisse is following closely behind.Ā  He has had some great finishes in the ARCA series, after moving up from the Camping World East (formerly Busch North/East Series).Ā  At that level, Caisse honed his skills under the wonderful tutelage of Andy Santerre, many times champion of that series before retiring as a driver and starting his own team to develop young, up and coming racers.Ā  Caisse has also caught the eye of Sprint Cup driver Kevin Harvick at Dover who put him in his Busch Series car for one race a few years ago.Ā  Unfortunately, Caisse crashed on qualifying, went to a back up car and then crashed again during the race.Ā Ā  While Caisse led several laps in last night’s ARCA race, he came in a close second to Speed.Ā  He is, however, poised to get that first win soon in the ARCA REMAX series and it will be just a matter of time until he is the one celebrating with his team in Victory Lane.

Both Speed and Caisse have proven in their one-two finish last night under the lights that they have what it takes to win at the ARCA level, and soon advance to that next level in racing.Ā  Speed especially is taking the racing world by storm, with his finishes as well as his unique personality.Ā  May their side-by-side battles continue in the ARCA series as they provide exceptional racing in preparation for their eventual jump to the big leagues of NASCAR.
