We all know that center Maurkice Pouncey was drafted to eventually take over as the next starting center for the Pittsburgh Steelers. We also assume that he will either start or alternate at the right guard position, and possibly also take Legurskey's spot as the back up center this year. The Steelers will have to keep a center on the practice squad, so they have a possible back-up for 2011, when Pouncey could be moved to center.

It seems to me that the Steelers are intending to create a lot of competition and maybe shake up the offensive line this year in training camp. The Steelers have brought in several O-line players with their pre- and post-draft free agent signings. They also drafted  multi-position O. lineman Chris Scott in the draft. Plus the Steelers tried to sign offensive tacklet Cirron Black, but he choose to look some where else for a job.

I can only assume Mr. Black was hoping to sign some place where he thought he had a better chance to make the team. Right now, the Steelers have 16 offensive lineman going in to this training camp. So what are the Steelers up to? Are the Steelers just trying to create competition early in training camp or are they looking to find younger players for the offensive line?

One thing is for certain, the Steelers don't seem totally happy with the status-quo of their offensive line play. Most likely, the Steelers brought most of these players in just to compete and motivate their starters early in training camp. But it is possible that a few of the free agents could win jobs from some of the established back ups or beat out players that were on the practice squad last year.

My musings;

   1-If Pouncey becomes the starting right guard or back up center, who will be the odd man out, Essex or Urbik? Does back up center Legurskey still have a spot on the practice squad?

   2- Will Jonathan Scott beat out Willie Colon for the right tackle position?

   3- Is there any chance Kyle Jolly or Chris Scott beats out Tony Hills for the back up left tackle position?  Jolly, wouldn't that be a great name to have as a Steelers lineman?

   4- Ramon Foster recommended Chris Scott to the Steelers. Scott maybe competing for Foster's own job as back up left guard. Will they still be friends after training camp?

  5- Which offensive linemen will make the roster or practice squad?
