Finally the first day of rookie training camp is here and alot of the rookies are doing good, though they are not wearing pads yet, but they are showing the coaches what they can do in shorts like running routes and drills that test players instincts. The rookies and veteran free agent number were also released today.
Rookie Tight End Rob Gronkowski is wearing NO. 87, which Ben Coates and David Givens were known for wearing. Gronkowski showed his soft hands and excellent route running in drills today.
Rookie Tight End Aaron Hernandez is wearing NO. 46, I don't know if it will stick or not, it could also mean that he might actually convert to an H-Back instead of tight end. Hernandez showed soft hands and good route running just like his rookie teammate Gronkowski.
Rookie Outside Linebacker Jermaine Cunningham is wearing NO. 96, which everyone knows Adalius Thomas wore with his short career with the Patriots.
Rookie Middle Linebacker Brandon Spikes is wearing NO. 55, great linebackers have worn NO. 55 with the Patriots, such as the beast off the edge Willie McGinnest and everyone's favorite surfer and part time linebacker with the team Junior Seau. Spikes was very vocal working with the defense and he should be a leader on the defense for years to come.
Rookie Wide Receiver Taylor Price is wearing NO. 17, he showed blazing speed and soft hands, as well as excellent route running. Chad Jackson wore NO. 17 when the Patriots moved up in the second round of the 2006 draft and was a huge bust only having 14 receptions for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns in his 3 year NFL career.
Rookie Cornerback Devin McCourty is wearing NO. 32, which has been previously worn by running back Antowain Smith and McCourty took reps in punt return today.
Veteran Free Agent Wide Receiver Torry Holt is wearing NO. 84, which was recently worn by the departing tight end Ben Watson.
Veteran Free Agent Tight End Alge Crumpler is wearing NO. 82, previously worn by fan favorite tight end Daniel Graham.
Recently departed speciall teams safety Ray Ventrone's younger brother Rookie Safety Ross Ventrone was drafted by the Patriots this year and is sporting his older brother's NO. 41.
Veteran Free Agent Wide Receiver David Patten has kept his same number since he was last with the team; NO. 86.
