Bryce Sherman: A Fan Favorite at South Carolina
During South Carolina's 2010 Garnet and Black game, one player showed exactly why he has been given the opportunity to play for the South Carolina Gamecocks, and made a case to be one of the featured backs on this year's team.
It was NOT Marcus Lattimore (who arrives this fall).
It was Bryce Sherman. The Sherminator. Sherm the Worm, Bryce "Holy Crap One of the Coaches Little Children Stole a Uniform and Ran Onto the Field" Sherman.
All jokes about his size aside (5'4, 154 pounds) there is nothing little about the man's game.
During the spring game, Bryce Sherman carried the ball four times for 32 yards. That is a solid clip of eight yards per carry.
I was at that game, and every time he touched the ball he looked as though he could take it all the way. He was explosive. The best comparison I can think of is a greased pig.
You hold your breath when this Mazda Miata gets ran over by a Mack Truck, but he always bounces right back up.
Add to this his ability to take back kicks and catch the ball (he was originally slotted as a wide receiver), and you are looking at a very underrated Gamecock player who has the big play ability that the team needs and the fans crave.
His numbers last year were solid. 24 kick returns for 504 yards (21 yard average), nine carries for 67 yards, and one catch for 48. Even though he did not have as many opportunities to shine as some of the other players.
He has added some noticeable bulk over the offseason, with many people commenting that his legs were as large as Brian Maddox's, who is South Carolina's big power back.
He is currently listed as fourth on the depth chart, but you might as well call it fifth with the pending arrival of Marcus Lattimore not being reflected on the current chart.
However, look for this player to get many more opportunities to get the ball into his hands, and look for him to make the most out of every opportunity this man is given.
Remember, it only takes one raindrop to raise the ocean, and it only takes a small spark to build a raging fire. (Anonymous).
