Robert GardnerSenior Analyst IApril 29, 2010

Tonight Bleacher Report is live in the heart of downtown Kansas City’s Power and Light District for Bellator XVI.

Tonight we will be treated to the quarterfinal round of Bellator’s middleweight tournament and we will get our first look of the season at the eight fighters vying for a shot at season one winner and reigning Bellator middleweight champion, Hector Lombard.

5:34 The gates are open now and fans are starting to file into the outdoor KC Live venue.

6:05 The announcer is in the cage now and we are about to get under way.

6:11 Sill waiting on the event to get going, but I just saw a dude in the general admission crowd wearing purple chick pants, wow.

Demi Deeds (15-9) vs. Eric Marriott (17-3)

6:34 The fighters are both in the cage receiving instructions from the referee for this catchweight bout. Also, might I say that the Bellator ring girls look fabulous tonight.

6:39 Great back and forth action here in the first. Multiple transitions and submission attempts.

6:40 Round one is in the books and it is a tough one to call, Marriott had better positioning, but Deeds had some great submission attempts.

6:45 Marriott locks in a triangle and Deeds has no choice but to tap out.

Result - Marriott by second-round submission.

6:48 Time for a little break before the live telecast on FSN.

7:00 And we are live!

Luke Zachrich (9-1) vs. Eric Schambari (12-1)

7:07 Fighters are on the way to the cage now for the first middleweight quarterfinal.

7:16 Fighters are grappling in the center of the cage. Schambari is on top looking for a dominate position.

Result - Schambari by first-round submission (arm triangle)

7:26 Just spotted the guy in the purple pants again. I still can't quite figure what would compel someone to go for that look.

Matt Major (6-1) vs. Alexander Shlemenko (27-4)

7:27 Fighters are on the way to the cage for the second middleweight quarterfinal.

7:33 First-round action is underway and Shlemenko opens up with a spinning back kick.

7:36 Shlemenko catches Major with a spinning backfist. Shlemenko is really throwing everything with bad intentions.

7:37 Round one is over and Major's face is a little busted up already.

7:39 Big spinning back kick to the body by Shlemenko.

7:42 Shlemenko slips while throwing another spinning back kick and now Major is on top going to work.

7:44 Round two is in the books and even though Major was able to get on top and do some damage it is obvious that Shlemenko is the one controlling the action.

7:50 And this one is going to the judges’ scorecards.

Results - Shlemenko by unanimous decision.

Sean Loeffler (14-3) vs. Bryan Baker (12-1)

8:02 Loeffler and Baker are making their way to the cage now. Interesting fact, Baker hails from my hometown of Victorville, CA.

8:10 Baker blasts his way to a first round TKO stoppage. Very impressive.

Result - Baker by first-round TKO.

8:17 Off to grab an interview with Bryan Baker!

8:22 Baker interview is on hold for a few. Hess and McGivern are on their way to the cage now for the final televised fight of the eveing.

Jared Hess (10-1-1) vs. Ryan McGrivern (13-5)

8:29 The final middleweight quarterfinal in now underway.

8:33 Round one is over. Not too much action, but Hess was able to maintain a dominate postion for most of the round.

8:36 Hess grabs a guillotine from the bottom and it is all over.

Result - Hess by second-round submission.

Drew Dober (1-2) vs. Nick Nolte (2-1)

8:52 Dober has the mount and he is reigning down punches.

8:54 Dober locks in the arm triangle to finish the job in this one-sided beatdown. Dober's record does not reflect how good he looks in person.

Result Dober by first-round submission.

9:00 Just got done talking to the impressive Bryan "The Beast" Baker. Be on the lookout for a feature piece.

Danny Tims (8-2) vs. Brian Davidson (6-1)

9:04 The crowd is electric for this showdown of local bantamweights.

9:09 Great back and forth action here in the first. You have to love the pace the smaller fighters maintain. WOW!

9:13 Davidson has been on his back for most of the second round, but he is definitely doing more damage.

9:17 Round two comes to an end and the crowd is split for the local boys.

9:18 Fighters share a hug in the center of the cage before the third and final round gets underway.

9:20 Tims wants no part of Davidson on the feet. Constantly working for the takedown.

9:22 This ones going to the judges. Tough fight to call. Tims was able to get the fight to the ground, but Davidson was able to do more damage.

Result - Tims by unanimous decision.

9:26 With the win, Tims will now be a part of Bellator's season three bantamweight tournament.

Brent Weedman (14-5) vs. Rudy Bears (11-4)

9:30 Fighters are on the way to the cage for the final fight of the evening. Great action so far and I am sure this welterweight showdown will not disappoint.

9:35 Bears is just overwhelming Weedman to get things started.

9:37 Weedman has Bears' back now and is looking for the rear naked.

9:39 Weedman unloads on Bears and its over.

Result - Weedman by first-round TKO.

Great night of fights tonight here in Kansas City. Bellator continues their run of great events.
