Hulk Hogan: Is the Wrestling Icon Ruining His Legacy?

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 28, 2010

HULK HOGAN!!!!!THE REAL AMERICAN HERO!!!!!

The name used to mean so much to so many people.

Hogan is arguably the biggest star in professional wrestling history.

He has sold out arenas all around the world and wrestled most of the top stars from every country, territory, and promotion.

Hogan had an amazing run in WWE back when they were call WWF as the face of the company.

Everything was put on Hogan's shoulders and he carried it well. He had loads of merchandise, tons of movie roles, and even a short lived TV show.

Side note: I watched every episode of "Thunder in Paradise."

Hogan was the focal point of the first round of Wrestlemania events as well.

It is speculated that Wrestlemania would have been a failure had it not been for the drawing power of "The Yellow and Red Warrior."

After his run in WWE, Hulk took some time off and even contemplated retiring from wrestling, until he got a call from Eric Bischoff.

Eric convinced Hogan to come to WCW.

While in WCW, Hogan was instrumental in bringing in many of the stars that had been used to build WWE into the giants that they were.

WCW was still the B-wrestling show until the debut of Monday Nitro.

Nitro brought WCW into direct contention with WWE for Monday Night Ratings.

At first, WWE trounced the competition.

But the introduction of a new faction would change all that.

The NWO came into reality when Scott Hall and Kevin Nash came in with gimmicks of invaders from a rival company.

During a PPV, they revealed that their third man was none other than Hulk Hogan.

This began Hogan's first heel run in his career.

Hogan turned his back on everything he had fought for over the last 15 years.

By doing this, Hogan would become one of wrestling's top heels of all time.

The run with the NWO lasted for a long time, and eventually the group grew to be almost as big as the rest of the roster who weren't members.

WCW eventually lost the ratings war and was bought by Vince McMahon and absorbed into the WWE.

Hogan appeared in WWE after this, sometimes as himself, sometimes as a masked Patriotic character.

While everyone knew it was Hogan, the angle helped him change his image a little bit.

Upon leaving from WWE, Hogan was looking for a way to keep busy and make some money, so he brought out the show "Hogan Knows Best"

The show depicted the Hogan family going through their everyday life, from Hulk's occasional matches to Brooke's budding music career.

Brooke was even used in an angle on RAW where Orton was feuding with Hogan.

Everything started to go downhill from this point.

The show was one of the factors that led to his divorce from his longtime wife Linda.

His daughter began getting the rep of a Paris Hilton type socialite.

His son, Nick, was involved in a terrible car accident.

Hogan himself began feeling the years of abuse, and at one point is said to have contemplated suicide.

To the happiness of his fans, he never went through with it and eventually made his way back on TV with a celebrity wrestling show.

This show pitted B-list celebs against each other in wrestling matches after being coached by the likes of the Nasty Boys and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake.

The show only lasted one season, and again Hogan found himself without an outlet.

His occasional appearances on his daughter's show were the only thing keeping him busy.

Hogan underwent major back surgery after suffering severe pains that prevented him from walking.

After the successful surgery Hogan began planning a tour of Australia, a place he had never wrestled before and wanted to tour before retiring.

Around the same time, he was approached by TNA to become a GM type character as well as a backstage presence.

Since coming to TNA, Hogan and Bischoff have made numerous changes from the ring, to the look of the Impact zone, to the roster of superstars in the back.

Hogan has wrestled about a half dozen times since taking over the budding promotion.

Some people have said that he will help TNA compete with WWE, while others say he will kill the company the same way WCW died.

The question I wish to pose is this.

Is Hulk Hogan's legacy any less special because of his current role in TNA?

What do you think?
