Why Has Everyone Already Sealed The Broncos and Tim Tebow's Fate?
Ok, it's been four days since the Bronco's selected Timothy Tebow as one of their two first round choice's, 25th overall, in the 2010 NFL Draft. So I'm sure you've all heard by now that it was a very stupid thing to do. I mean that's what Mel Kiper Jr. said and Pete Prisco and Mike Freeman and Todd McShay and so forth and so forth and those guys know what they're talking about, that's why they do what they do.....
According to those guys "in the know" the Broncos should've selected Jimmy Clausen because, and I quote, "Tebow doesn't have half the talent Clausen has". Really? Ok just for the sake of arguement let's compare the two. Tim Tebow leaves Florida with two National Championship rings, a Heisman Trophy, 35-6 as a starting Qb, 9,285 total passing yrds., 88 total passing td's, 16 Int's, 66.5 % career completion percentage, and an average Qb rating of 177.7.

Jimmy Clausen is 16-18 as a starter, 8,148 total yrds., 60 tds, 27 int's, career completion percentage of 61.7 % and a 132.6 Qb rating. The actual high-light of his career was being named co-MVP a year ago in the Hawaii Bowl. But he ran a NFL style offense under Charlie Weiss while at Notre Dame so that's what matters most....
We all have opinions as to who or what we think is good or bad. It's my opinion that Tim Tebow will go on to be a fantastic NFL Qb and why do I have that opinion? Because Tim Tebow is a winner and he's a leader. No, he doesn't have break away speed and by now everyone on the planet knows that his throwing motion isn't up to NFL standards but the so-called problems that Tebow has can be fixed by coaching and a couple of years of playing back-up and watching film.
You can't coach character, there is no playbook on how to be a leader. You either have it or you don't, there are no shades of grey in between. One CBS.com columnist made it clear that he just doesn't like "Saint Timmy" as he liked to call him. "His rah-rah crap won't work in the NFL, they won't stand for it. They won't listen." Maybe the NFL would prefer someone with a few more sexual assault cases under his belt? Or maybe a felony possession of a firearm, throw in a D.U.I here, an illegal drug possession there? Maybe that would work better. What the hell does a team need a leader for anyway?
The nay-sayers in the media act as if Tim Tebow is all talk and no action but for the past four years the kid has went out onto the football field and broke records and helped lead the Florida Gators to TWO BCS National Championships. You say he can't pass and that he can't read defense's? As a lifelong Crimson Tide fan I can tell you for a fact that he can.
In the 2008 SEC Championship game I watched him pick Nick Saban's NFL-esque 3-4 defense to shreds, making pin-point passes to his receivers that were nearly indefensible. I think Jon Gruden said it best, it doesn't matter what his throwing motion looks like as long as he get's the ball to his receivers. Tim Tebow can, and will, get the job done.
Tim Tebow will not go into the Bronco's locker room and demand respect, Tim Tebow will, over time, earn the respect of his teammates, of the coaches and the Broncos' fan base.
He came out of Allen D. Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Florida a five-star, blue chip recruit considered by most recruiting analysts not only to be the best Qb prospect in the nation but the best overall player coming out of highschool. The expectations the Florida faithful had in mind for Tebow was high to say the least, a 17 year old kid with the weight of an entire university on his shoulder's. The kind of pressure most adult's will never face in their lifetimes. The youing man handled the pressure and made it look easy in the process.
Once again he's faced with the pressure that comes with fame and success but only this time instead of expectations of great things to come he's been pegged as a draft day dud. The crown jewel in Urban Meyer's 2006 recruiting class but the final nail in the coffin for Josh McDaniel and the Bronco's.
Can Tim Tebow respond to this the way he has to every other hurdle he's faced in football? I think so.
