Fernando Torres Claims Physical EPL May Force Him To Move On Or Risk His Career

Craig FarrellApr 25, 2010

Liverpool and their fans were dealt a major blow last week when Fernando Torres announced that he would have to undergo surgery and miss the rest of the season.

Yet again, the Liverpool fans have been dealt a worrying blow from recent news regarding their star striker.

Fernando Torres has admitted the physicality of the Premier League could force him to depart from Liverpool for health reasons.

Manchester City and Roberto Mancini has been heavily linked with a move for Liverpool's star Spaniard, but Torres' recent comments could bring Manchester City's interest to a halt.

Torres said that he feels that the Premier League really wears a player down.

"I just can't imagine what state I'll be in within five or six years if i continued to play here—It could easily give me problems when I stop playing," said Torres.

"The physical level is superior to all other countries."

Liverpool's star striker joined the club at the start of the 2007-08 season and played 33 games in his first season. That has been a career high for Torres with Liverpool and in his following two years heĀ failed to take part in more than 25 league games a season.

Torres missed 30 Premier League games during his this season and lastĀ missing 35 league games in total.

Fernando also said that the only reason he joined Liverpool and the Premier League was due to manager Rafael Benitez.

"If Rafa was not here I would have never come".

Torres' commentsĀ for joining Liverpool could also cause the Reds some trouble as manager Rafael Benitez has been continually linked with a move away from LiverpoolĀ in the summer.

Both Juventus and Real Madrid are two teams with supposed interest in the Liverpool's manager.

In recent weeks, Rafael Benitez has demanded that the Liverpool board make a large transfer fund available for new players in the summer or he will leave his post.Ā

Liverpool's season thus far has been in somewhat of disarray. The Reds failed to build on their second place finish from last season and find themselves fighting for a spot in europe next season, but face a very tough, uphill battle to secure the final Champions League spot.

However, LiverpoolĀ is still in the running for the Europa League final this year. They will host Fernando Torres' former team Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the semifinal at Anfield, a goal down.

The fans of Liverpool have had to endure turbulent times this season and the summer may be just as hectic.

Fernando Torres would improve any team in Europe and his latest comments may be construed as a window of opportunity for Europe's elite to try land the best striker in football.
