Arsenal Player Ratings vs Manchester City
After a malnourished Arsenal accepted defeat to the hands of rivals Tottenham and cellar dwellers Wigan Athletic in frustrating fashion, fans were hoping Wenger and his men were capable of overcoming a confident Manchester City side, who have had an edge of the Gunners in recent meetings.
But the much anticipated encounter turned out to be a lifeless, dull affair with no real moments to get the viewer of their seat. The goalless draw sees Arsenal out of the elusive title race for good and will now have to turn their attention to the transfer window.
Player Ratings
Lukasz Fabianski: 6: No glaring errors for once and was rarely challenged. However, when calledĀ uponĀ he delivered.
Bacary Sagna: 6.5: Neat and tidy against the speedy Craig Bellamy. The Frenchman's clean defense ensured City struggled down their leftĀ flank. Contributed decently in attack.
Sol Campbell: 7: The veteran defender put in a number of solid and vital tackles. Also impressed in the air, and quite frankly his experience and presence should ensure a further year at the Emirates.
Mikael Silvestre: 7: A fine performance from the nervy Frenchman, who is evidently working hard to cut errors from his performance. Dealt with the City attack with relative ease and is beginning to gel better with Campbell.
Gael Clichy: 7.5: Surged forward in attack and was solid in defence. Vastly improved from his performance against the Latics.
Alexandre Song: 6.5: The return of the Cameroonian midfielder was a welcome sight. Worked tirelessly to enable the City midfield had no freedom at all.
Abou Diaby: 6: The lanky Frenchman got forward well with the ball but was careless at times. His efforts did spark Arsenal movement.
Samir Nasri: 6: Needed to be more creative with the ball, especially without Cesc Fabregas's presence. His footwork wasĀ eye catchingĀ but to no real Ā effect.
Tomas Rosicky: 6: Similar to Nasri, worked hard to start attacks but it usually resulted in a loss of ball.Ā
Theo Walcott: 6: City were very much aware of the Englishman's threat, so Walcott struggled to really get going, but did offer a few decent runs.
Robin van Persie: 6: Didn't receive enough support from his midfielders, but promising signs for the freaky Dutchman. A few chances that, maybe if being super critical, should have been taken.
Substitutes
Nicklas Bendtner: 5.5: Too many rash touches, also failed to control a ball which could have netted the winner late on.
Emmanuel Eboue: 5.5: Sparked up Arsenal down the right but unfortunately was unable to conjure up anything.
