Sounders Hope to Extend Unbeaten Road Streak
Based on the disappointment of a late stoppage time goal enabling Real Salt Lake to survive with a tie and more of the same in the Sounders’ last test at FC Dallas on Thursday, an important fact has been obscured.
Seattle Sounders FC is unbeaten on the road this season and has an enviable skein of 2-0-2 in the team’s last four away matches and a lofty 4-1-3 mark extending back to its last eight contests.
Controversy continues abounding over the call that produced a 94:00 minute penalty goal by Dallas’ Jeff Cunningham on Thursday. Reviewing footage substantiated Sounders’ mentor Sigi Schmid’s statement after the match that it was a “bad call.”
At the same time the Sounders came away with a valuable point while Fredy Montero made the seasonal highlight reel with a captivating long range penalty kick of 40-yards and Steve Zakuani again showed his impressive speed in driving the length of the field and booting home a first stanza goal.
Toronto FC supplies the opposition in another Sounders road test on Sunday. The action will commence at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time at BMO Field.
Seattle with its 2-1-2 mark and eight points earned moved into sole possession of second place Thursday in the MLS’ Western Conference after the 2-2 deadlock with FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park.
As for Toronto, it has claimed all of its three points in the home confines of BMO Field. The Canadian team is 1-3-0. Its last match resulted in a 3-1 loss at Colorado last Sunday.
