Liverpool 'Workhorse' Dirk Kuyt on Struggling Juventus's Radar

The current season is drawing to a close now and it is perfectly normal when you see rumours around the web and newspapers. However, this piece of news simply made my jaw drop. Apparently, Italian club Juventus are interested in bringing in Reds fan favourite Dirk Kuyt to the struggling club for a reported fee in the region of £9m.

Whether this is just another rumour or a thing to be believed is really anyone's guess. But could Anfield be bracing itself for an Italian swoop that will see one of their influential players leaving the club to ply their trade elsewhere.

Liverpool forward cum right midfielder Kuyt who cost Liverpool £10m when he was brought in from Feyernood is a player that is adored simply because of his hardwork and integrity when playing football. He as a striker though does not bang in the goals for the Reds.

I really do not admire the way Kuyt plays as there is nothing special from his game as unlike other wingers he rarely dribbles past two players to build up an attack. I admire his sheer determination from the Flying Dutchman though. 

Here, for the first time, I can't make my mind up on whether he should be sold or kept at Anfield. Therefore, I've decided to look at the reasons on why we should sell or keep him.

Why should Liverpool sell Dirk Kuyt?

£9m for a winger that is not skillful and who will be 30 come this July is not a bad deal if you look at the current financial state of Liverpool. Eventhough the much hated yanks have decided to call it an end to their disastrous Anfield years, money can't be guarenteed immediately.

That money coupled with the sale of players who are surplus to requirements (eg: Degen,Riera,) could bring a double digit figure that would mean a lot to the struggling Merseyside club.

That money could be used to purchase a winger of  sublime quality, someone in the mould of possibly Juan Mata, Arda Turan or Eljero Elia. The former to me seems interesting and Anfield could just be the place for him.

Dirk Kuyt who puts in a lot of physical effort in games should be respected but if that is not going to help the Mighty Reds to score goals, then his efforts in simple words is wasted. 

Kuyt is also slow going forward and if a quick winger is brought in as a replacement, that would do no harm to the team.

Why should Liverpool keep Dirk Kuyt?

One fact that we should know is that Kuyt was brought in for £10m and in his four years in the club he has not done anything to lower his price tag even if it was only by £1m. Sensibly Juventus should be offering in the region £10m-£12m.

He, eventhough not an effective player is so influential to the team as Reds boss Rafael Benitez once said that his presence in the dressing room is appreciated by everyone associated to the club.

That speaks volumes about what the Dutchman could offer off the pitch. He alongside Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina, Jamie Carragher and Javier Mascherano form the backbone of the team and even if one of them leaves, that could spell trouble for Liverpool. Take Xabi Alonso's and Sami Hyppia's case as an example.

One action Rafa should take is to get a pacy winger to start matches and leave Kuyt on the bench so that he could come on and make an impact during games just like Solskjaer used to do for Manchester United. This is because Kuyt is that type of player who likes to make an impact and bring something different to the game.
