What Moves Will The Buffalo Bills Make On Day 2 Of The NFL Draft?

Kevin LatackiApr 22, 2010

The first round of the NFL draft is over, and to some disagreement the Bills took C.J. Spiller.  I was hoping for an offensive tackle, but with the top 3 off the board I thought we needed to look into another direction.  With that said, I was slightly dissapointed when they announced C.J. Spiller but not for long.  I understand that the Bills need playmakers.  People who can score on any given second.  The Bills finished 30th in the league for offense.  We cannot simply sit back and rest on the defense anymore, especially with the upgrades in our division to our rivals.  And an offensive spark is needed.  I can just imagine Spiller and Jackson on the field together.  Now what will come of day two of the NFL draft for the Buffalo Bills?

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer

My proposal is to trade Donte Whitner and a 5th to the Minnesota Vikings for their 2nd pick in the 2nd round.  I have always been the first to defend Whitner, he is a great player and I think he was worth that pick in 2006.  However, George Wilson and Byrd are a formidable duo at safety.  Whitner is now expendable.

I feel the 2nd round has the most value in it, and the Bills need to acquire some picks in this round.  My second proposal is Marshawn Lynch and our 4th round this draft to the Texans for their 2nd and 7th in 2011.  They need a running back.  And Marshawn Lynch has now become more expendable than he already was.

Now with those moves here are the players I would select in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Colt McCoy(from Vikings 2nd):  Now for all of you doubters, I feel McCoy can play.  I know that is not saying much but nonetheless I feel his winning attitude and his accuracy (yes I know he played in a spread offense) can go a long way.  He was never asked to make difficult throws because of that offense, however it does not mean he can't make them.  His pro day he showed his skills and I feel he will be a great pro.

Rodger Saffold (Bills 9 in round 2):  May not have been the big name tackle from the early first round, but he can play.  He has the skills to be a franchise tackle.  Some tweaking from coaches won't hurt.  But going through the Mini-camps and training camps he will be able to start day one.

Terrence Cody or Brandon Spikes (Texans 20th pick 2nd round)  Their is a high chance neither of these players will be available.  However, the Bills need to address their defense soon.  The switch to the 3-4 was a risky move and they need to add peices to the puzzle.  Terrence Cody is a great run stopper, many people see him as only a two-down player because of his weight.  However, I think he could play 3 within the next year.  He has shown dedication by losing 24 pounds.  He was 370 and is now 346.  With some endurance training and about another 15 pounds lighter, he could become a 3 down player.  As for Brandon Spikes he has seen his stock fall sharply.  His slow 40 time and his character issues should be a cause for concern.  However, I feel you need to get some depth as ILB for the 3-4.  After this season Andre Davis is most likely gone, and you need to groom someone behind him.

Jordan Shipley (Bills 9th pick in 3rd round)  Jordan Shipley may not be the fastest wide receiver in the draft, but he can catch.  He is a great slot receiver and can move the chains whenever called upon.  He route runing is above average, and he could fill the void left by Josh Reed.

So that is what I think the Bills should do on the 2nd day.  The Bills need offensive production and some players for the 3-4 defense.  They address both by doing this strategy.  Feel free to comment, I would like to hear your thoughts about the Bills first round selection, and as to what they should do in these upcoming rounds.
