The two teams meet again during the current season, this time in the semifinals of the Champions League. In autumn, Barcelona were able to have a drawn game on San Siro and then easily won the second leg thanks to Pique and Pedro’s goals.
Because of the already famous ash cloud, Pep Guardiola’s boys came by bus to Milan, after a 14-hour endurance travel. This might be an important detail taking into account that players should not be tired before such a big match. At the press conference in Milan, Guardiola stated that they would take this game seriously and that they were aware of the fact that Inter are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment.
For Mourinho, this tie against Barcelona represents also his chance to break a record: heading for the Champions League final with three different teams (Porto and Chelsea being the first two).
Excepting Toldo, Inter won’t have significant players absent for this game, although there are many players that should pay extra attention to their yellow cards, as they could be suspended for the second leg.
As for Barca, Iniesta is the only major player who won’t be able to play, as he is injured.
Inter will engage in this game after a difficult victory again Juventus; yet, it was this victory that allowed Milan to be only one point behind AS Roma and not to lose hopes for the title.
Somewhat hurt inside because of the drawn match with Espanyol on Saturday (that resurrected the competition in Spain), Barcelona would like to solve the “Mourinho problem” even from the first leg.
The current game will undoubtedly be a tactical one, and the result is surely hard to predict.
