2010 MLB National League MVP Race: Week Two
Alright, we're two weeks into the 2010 season and seven players so far have set themselves apart from the pack to lead the race for the MVP crown of the National League.
Starting from bottom to the top.
Jorge Cantu of the Florida Marlins is an RBI machine. He is batting .288, which is nothing to clap at, but he leads the league in RBI with 16, and he also has three HR and six doubles. Cantu is here to stay, people, so get used to hearing his name in the MVP talk.

Placido Polanco of the Philadelphia Phillies is batting a cool .396 and is tied for the league lead in runs with 14. Polanco will cool off a little but look for a solid .300 season and maybe 100 runs scored.
Casey McGehee of the Milwaukee Brewers...Casey who? Yes, McGehee has put himself in the MVP talk with a .400 avg and four HRs. He also has 10 RBI and nine runs scored. McGehee is showing up in his second full season in the Majors.
Ivan Rodriguez of the Washington Nationals. Yes, the old man can still play. He leads the league in batting at a .444 clip and leads the league with seven doubles. Pudge has also scored nine runs.
Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals is a great example of a steady player. He has five HRs and 15 RBI to go along with a .327 average and nine runs scored. He is always in the MVP talk.
Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies leads the league in HRs with six and is tied for the league lead in runs with 14. Put that with his 12 RBI and a .341 average and that is MVP caliber numbers.
My MVP right now is Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kemp has a .327 average to go along with 14 runs scored and five HRs and 15 RBI. Kemp also has four doubles on the season. He is tied for the league lead in runs and is second in HRs and RBI. Simply basing the MVP race on this year's stats, he is the winner.
