Here's My Ideal Dolphin's Draft
With draft day anticipation heating up, and the first real excitement I've felt for the Dolphins since they acquired Ricky Williams, I thought I'd give my opinion of what the Phin's should do come draft day.
Our secondary was punished several times last year, mostly by TE's vs. our safeties. That being said If the Dolphins wanna pull the trigger on Earl Thomas, I'll accept that as a valuable pick. We should keep in mind though, that the teams that torched us with the pass the worse also both played all the way into February with arguably the two best QBs in the game. I also think we should seriously look into moving Sean Smith over to FS anticipating a healthy Will Allen. Going into the 2010 season, I would feel very comfortable with Allen and Davis on the corners and Bell and Smith on the backside, granted we'd have some depth issues, but you don't use your 1st rounder for depth. This is why I think we pass on Earl Thomas.Ā

I think we should seriously try to deal Ronnie Brown for a 2nd rounder, but no less. Detroit has RB concerns heading into the season and this would be a perfect fit for all parties involved. If the trifecta could pull this off I think the selection has to be CJ Spiller. If this were to come to fruition I feel like we could grab our rush OLB with Detroit's selection in the 2nd round. Maybe TCU's Jerry Hughes falls to us here. I also see NO reason we don't resign Jason Taylor. So no need to panic if we don't get one of the "elite" pass rushers.
If we can't deal Ronnie Brown for at least a 2nd rounder we should explore the idea of trading back from 12 and getting back into the 2nd round. If we could swap with someone looking to snag Dez Bryant, Jimmy Clausen, Earl Thomas, or Joe Haden this would be the next best ideal scenario. I'm thinking Pittsburgh at 19 is a match made in heaven as they could/should be looking for either Bryant (if Denver goes another direction) or any of the other three aforementioned players. This is a big gamble hoping Dan Williams still falls to us here. I don't see anyone between 13 - 19 drafting Williams, though. Then in the second round acquired from Pittsburgh we address the rush OLB position with BPA. Then we can take a serious look at RB Monterrio Hardesty in preparation for next year in the 3rd round whose combine numbers were spectacular. He quietly top 5'd basically everything and has good size to pound it between the tackles.
So here's a DREAM scenario:
19. (acq by trading picks w/ Pitt and getting their 2nd): Dan Williams NT TENN
34. (acq by trade w/ Det for R. Brown): Jerry Hughes OLB TCU
52. (acq from Pit): Chad Jones S LSUĀ
73. Monterrio Hardesty RB TENN
110. Aaron Hernandez TE UF
145. (acq from SF for T. Ginn): Daryl Sharpton MLB UMĀ
173. Mike Williams WR SYR
174. Best C availableĀ
179. Best KR/PR available
Oh and of course, we resign Jason Taylor. Just get it done! there's no reason this HOFer and all time dolphin great should ever be in another uniform again. Sign him and let him retire when he's ready.Ā
