Sheets and Sheffield, One In The Same

James Jacobson Apr 17, 2010

It seems to me, that some years back the Milwaukee Brewers had a hot shot player at 3B. What was his name again?  Oh yeah, Gary Sheffield.  Sheffield wanted nothing to do with the Brewers because they were small market and it seems that their era of winning seasons were behind them.  He tried everything in his power to get himself removed from Milwaukee.  Removed, he got.  He went on to have a stellar career with the Padres, Marlins, Dodgers, Braves, Yankees, Tigers and Mets.  He even reached the 500 Home Run milestone in 2009.

To say the least, Sheffield really didn't want to be a Milwaukee Brewer and proved that by putting up numbers that were almost blow the "Uecker Line", and put up great numbers with different teams.

Ben Sheets, in my opinion, is another chapter in the Gary Sheffield Story.  Though he put up decent numbers for Milwaukee in the eight seasons he was the ace, it just seemd like he didn't really want to be a Milwaukee Brewer. EVER. A prime example would be putting himself on the DL for something as little as a hang nail. Or when he made it clear that he should still be the Brewers ace even though they picked up CC Sabathia and made the playoffs for the first time in 26 years.

After watching Sports Center this afternoon and seeing the outing that Sheets had, it brought back to mind that other person I wrote about.  What was his name again?  Oh yeah, Gary Sheffield.

Bottom line, Gary Sheffield fanaggeled his way out of the Brewers organization and put up stellar numbers with different clubs and Ben Sheets will put up career numbers this year in Oakland.
