2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – WEST REGION – SECOND ROUND

         #7 Memphis 66, #26 Mount St. Mary’s 59

    Memphis, down by as many as 19 in the second half, staged a furious comeback capped by a 16-0 run over an eight minute span in the second half, to come from behind and defeat Mount St. Mary’s 66-59 in a SMCAA West 2nd round thriller.  The Tigers, who trailed 40-25 at the break, and 44-25 with 18 minutes remaining, got eight of Wesley Witherspoon’s thirteen points during the run.  Doneal Mack led Memphis with 15 points, while Elliot Williams added 14 points, and Roburt Sallie chipped in 10 points and 4 assists in the comeback.
    Jeremy Goode was the only Mountaineer in double figures, scoring 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting.  Mount St. Mary’s struggled at the foul line, hitting only 7 of 15 on the night.

        #10 Alabama 73, #42 Mississippi Valley State 62

    Alabama used a key 13-6 second half run to break open a tight game and defeat Mississippi Valley State 73-62 in a West 2nd round matchup.  With the Crimson Tide leading 37-34 with 14 minutes remaining, Senario Hillman (15 points) and Anthony Brock (13 points) each scored five points in the decisive run.  Mikhail Torrance lead Alabama in the ballgame with 16 points, including a perfect 6 of 6 from the line.
    Shannon Behling led the Delta Devils in the game with 14 points and 7 rebounds.  Julius Cheeks had 12 points, including 3 three pointers, while D’Angelo Jackson added 10 points.  MVSU struggled shooting the ball though, hitting only 35% of their shots on the night.

        WEST REGION 3RD ROUND: #10 Alabama vs. #7 Memphis

        #18 Duquesne 68, #15 California-Santa Barbara 65

    Duquesne had four players score as they made a five point halftime lead stick as the Dukes defeated California-Santa Barbara 68-65 in a West 2nd round contest.  Bill Clark had 14 points to lead the way for Duquesne.  Damian Saunders (13 points, 15 rebounds), Eric Evans (11 points), and Jason Duty (10 points) all contributed in the win. The Dukes came away with the victory despite shooting a paltry 5 of 16 at the free throw line.
    The Gauchos were led by Orlando Johnson and his 17 points and 7 rebounds.  James Nunnally added 16 points and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough as UCSB shot only 35% from the field in the game.

        #2 Purdue 74, #34 Long Island 63

    Purdue shot 53% for the game and took control in the second half to beat Long Island 74-63 in a 2nd round West affair.  JaJuan Johnson was the start for the Boilermakers, scoring 23 points and pulling down 9 rebounds.  E’Twaun Moore had 19 points, including 3 three pointers, and 8 rebounds in the contest while Keaton Grant chipped in 13 points and two 3 pointers of his own.
    The Blackbirds were led by Jaytornah Wisseh and his 16 points and 7 assists on the night.  Kenny Onyechi was the only other Long Island player in double figures with 14 points and 7 rebounds.  LIU had trouble at the free throw line, though, hitting just 14 of 22 for the game.

        NORTHWEST REGION 3RD ROUND: #18 Duquesne vs. #2 Purdue
