2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – NORTH REGION – SECOND ROUND

       #5 Florida State 81, #28 California-Davis 74

    Florida State established a 10 point halftime lead and went on to post an 81-74 win over a pesky California-Davis team in a SMCAA North 2nd round contest.  The Seminoles, who led 39-29 at the break, were led by Solomon Alabi and his 22 points on a stellar 9 for 11 shooting night from the floor.  Chris Singleton was the only other FSU player to reach double figures as he had 12 points and 10 rebounds, however.  The Noles struggled from three point range, going 3 for 12, and from the free throw line, hitting just 14 of 23 attempts.
    The Aggies played well with five players in double figures, led by Julian Welch and his 16 points off the bench.  Dominic Calegari (15 points), Mark Payne (13 points, 5 assists), Ryan Sypkens (11 points), and Ryan Silva (10 points) were also in double figures for UC-Davis, but they struggled on the boards, getting out rebounded by Florida State by 14, 41-27.

        #12 Georgia 84, #21 East Tennessee State 69

    Georgia rolled 53 first half points, en route to a 17 point halftime lead, and ultimately defeated East Tennessee State 84-69 in a 2nd round North contest.  Four starters scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, led by Trey Thompkins and his 17 points. Thompkins also had 11 rebounds on the evening.  Travis Leslie (16 points, 11 rebounds), Ricky McPhee (15 points, 4 three pointers), and Dustin Ware (14 points) all contributed in the victory.
    The Buccaneers got 15 points from Micah Williams, 13 points from Justin Tubbs, and 10 points and 8 rebounds from Tommy Hubbard in the loss.

        NORTH REGION 3RD ROUND: #12 Georgia vs. #5 Florida State

        #20 Drexel 73, #13 Louisiana Tech 60

    Drexel dominated the glass and got 21 points from Jamie Harris in defeating Louisiana Tech 73-60 in a North 2nd round surprise.  The Dragons controlled the boards all night long, out rebounding the Bulldogs by 14, 46-32.  Harris had his 21 points on 7 of 12 shooting, including 5 of 6 from the free throw line.  He was joined in double figures by Samme Givens, who had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Gerald Colds, who had 15 points and 7 assists in the victory.
    The Bulldogs were led Magnum Rolle and his 15 points.  Kyle Gibson added 11 points and 4 assists and Jamel Guyton chipped in 10 points, but it was not enough, as Louisiana Tech shot only 38% for the game.

        #4 Texas-El Paso 75, #36 Brown 59

    Randy Culpepper led 4 Texas –El Paso players in double figures with 23 points, including 4 three pointers, in the Miners’ 75-59 win over Brown in a North 2nd round matchup.  Culpepper was joined in double figures by Jeremy Williams with 12 points, Julyan Stone and his 11 points and 8 assists, and Derrick Caracter and his 11 points.  UTEP was almost perfect from the line on the night, hitting 19 of 20 from the line, with Williams having the only miss.
    Brown got 14 points from Matt Mullery, but he was the only Bear to be in double figures in the night.  He also had 8 rebounds in the contest.  Brown got pounded on the glass, though, being out rebounded by 16, 39-23.
