2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – SOUTH REGION – SECOND ROUND

        #7 Murray State 66, #26 Canisius 43

    Murray State raced out to a 13 points halftime lead and were never threathened in a 66-43 blowout of Canisius in a SMCAA South 2nd round contest.  The Racers were paced by Danero Thomas and his 18 points, which came from shooting 6 of 11 from the field.  Ivan Aska was the only other player in double figures with 14 points and 8 rebounds in the victory.
    The Golden Griffins’ only player in double figures was Julius Coles with 10 points.  Canisius could not make any shots in the game, shooting only 28% from the field and hitting only 4 of 14 three pointers.

        #10 Nevada 79, #23 Fresno State 74

    Nevada got out to a 10 point halftime lead and maintained a comfortable margin through the second half en route to a 79-74 win over Fresno State in a 2nd round South game.  The Wolf Pack, who led 40-30 at the break, got 20 points from Luke Babbitt on 7 of 12 shooting on the night.  Joey Shaw (16 points), Brandon Fields (13), and Armon Johnson (10) were in double figures as well for Nevada, who shot 53% from the floor for the game.
    The Bulldogs got a great game from Greg Smith, who led all scorers with 30 points and 15 rebounds, but Paul George was the only other player in double figures for FSU, scoring 21 points on 7 of 13 shooting.

        SOUTH REGION 3RD ROUND: #10 Nevada vs. #7 Murray State

        #15 Oklahoma 70, #18 Penn State 56

    Oklahoma established a 14 point halftime cushion and never looked back in beating Penn State, 70-56, in a 2nd round South contest.  The Sooners, who led 45-31 at the intermission, were led by Tony Crocker and his 21 points, which included 3 three pointers.  Willie Warren (17 points, 7 assists) and Tommy Mason-Griffin (11 points) were also in double figures for OU, who hit 84% of their free throws on the night.
    The Nittany Lions were by Talor Battle and his 13 points, but Bill Edwards was the only other PSU player in double figures with 10.  Penn State struggled shooting all night long, hitting only 37% from the field and making only 4 of 23 three point attempts.

        #2 Tennessee 75, #31 Furman 70

    Tennessee used a 10-5 run to close the game and survive a scare from Furman to win 75-70 in a South 2nd round game.  With the game tied at 65-65 with 3:09 left, Scotty Hopson hit two big baskets down the stretch for the Volunteers.  Hopson led Tennessee with 20 points on the night.  Bobby Maze (12 points) and Wayne Chism (10 points, 14 rebounds) played well in the victory.
    The Paladins were led by Amu Saaka and his 23 points, which included 4 three pointers.  Justin Dehm (11 points) was also in double figures for Furman.
