Why Cincinnati's Armon Binns Is the Best Receiver in College Football

Alex CallosApr 16, 2010

For the Cincinnati Bearcats points have been easy to come by over the past few seasons. After finishing fourth in the nation last season at just under 39 points per game, Cincinnati has a chance to be even more productive in 2010.

While a mediocre Big East conference may have had something to do with the inflated stats, the fact is Cincinnati is as talented as almost anybody at the skill positions and nobody is as talented at wide receiver in the country as Armon Binns.

Binns was dominant last season starting alongside All-American Mardy Gilyard. The 6'4" 200 pound junior had 61 receptions for 888 yards and a team leading 11 touchdowns. This season Binns will step into the No. 1 receiver role and show why he is the best the collegiate game has to offer.

With the slew of receivers on Cincinnati's roster, the wealth will be spread out which may limit Binns' touches, but if last season was any indicator, Binns is set to have a huge year in 2010.

When Zach Collaros filled in during the four game absence of Tony Pike, Armon Binns was his primary target. Binns had his biggest games in Collaros' starts, posting 138 yards and two touchdowns against Syracuse and 108 yards and a touchdown against Connecticut.

With Collaros now entrenched as the starting quarterback, expect a big season from the Bearcats go-to-guy on offense.

With the amount of skill players Cincinnati has on offense, double-teaming Binns will be something teams will have to shy away from.

In January, Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Binns as the No. 2 receiver coming back to college, and with a good season he could be an extremely high draft pick.

With another solid year, Binns will be a virtual lock to be the first Bearcat player selected in the first round of the NFL draft in 40 years. A breakout season could potentially vault him into the top 10.

His speed and ability to go deep and the fact that he is the favorite target of Zach Collaros make Binns a potential All-American.

Binns, along with D.J. Woods, and Vidal Hazelton are out to prove they are the best receiving corps in the nation. They have all the tools to do so. Only time will if they can live up to the hype.

For Binns, this is his senior season and his last chance at winning a BCS Bowl game. He along with the other receivers have something to prove this season, and the rest of the country better watch out.
