2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – SOUTHWEST REGION – SECOND ROUND

        #7 Mississippi State 70, #26 San Francisco 57

    Mississippi State rebounded from a halftime deficit and steadily pulled away in the second half to defeat San Francisco 70-57 in a SMCAA Southwest 2nd round matchup.  Trailing 29-28 at the break, the Bulldogs took the lead and then lengthened the lead as the second half wore on.  Dee Bost lead MSU with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists before fouling out with 5 minutes remaining.  Kodi Augustus was the only other Bulldog in double figures with 10 points on the night.
    Dior Lowhorn lead the Dons with 13 points and 7 rebounds while Kwame Vaughn added 10 points in the loss.

        #10 Marshall 82, #23 Iowa 68

    Marshall rode a hot shooting night to defeat Iowa 82-68 in a 2nd round Southwest game.  The Thundering Herd shot 52% from the floor, 60% from 3 point range, and 88% percent from the free throw line in the victory.  Shaquille Johnson led Marshall with 20 points including a perfect 4 for 4 from 3 point range.  Damier Pitts (13 points), Tyler Wilkerson (13 points), and Tirrell Baines (12 points, 12 rebounds off the bench) also scored in double figures for the Thundering Herd.
    The Hawkeyes were led by Cully Payne and his 18 points.  Matt Gatens added 16 points and 6 rebounds while Aaron Fuller chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.

        SOUTHWEST REGION 3RD ROUND: #10 Marshall vs. #7 Mississippi State

        #15 Providence 64, #18 Utah 56

    Providence closed the game on a 12-2 run over the final five minutes to come from behind and defeat Utah 64-56 in a Southwest 2nd round matchup.  The Friars trailed 54-52 before making the game winning rally to end the game.  Jamine Peterson led the way for PC with 16 points and 17 rebounds on the night.  Sharaud Curry added 14 points and 4 assists while Marshon Brooks chipped in 12 points in the victory.
    Luka Drca led the Utes with 14 points and Marshall Henderson added 12 in the loss, which saw Utah shoot 37% from the field and hit only 2 of 14 three point attempts.

        #2 Brigham Young 90, #34 Louisiana-Monroe 80

    Jimmer Fredette scored 25 points on 9 of 14 shooting including three 3 pointers to lead Brigham Young to a 90-80 win over Louisiana-Monroe in a 2nd round Southwest score fest.  Fredette also added 7 assists to his performance on the night.  Tyler Haws was the only other Cougar in double figures as he had 13 points and 7 rebounds.  BYU took care of business at the line, however, hitting 17 of 20 for the game.
    The Warhawks had four players in double figures led by Tony Hooper and 17 points and 5 assists.  Dynile Forbes (12 points), Lawrence Gilbert (12 points), and Rudy Turner (10 points and 10 rebounds) also contributed, but it was not enough on this night.
