Three Things To Look for in Michigan Wolverines' Spring Game
The Quarterback Competition
This will undoubtedly be an interesting sight. The real question surrounding the competition is the buzz about Denard Robinson running with the first group. Is it because he has developed so much, or has Forcier just not developed?
My guess is it's a combination of things, but it's definitely a positive if both Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson can produce wins. It's still early, but I for one will be surprised if Tate Forcier doesn't trot out for the first play of next season.
Also, don't forget Devin Gardner. He generated a lot of buzz himself with a 60-yard touchdown run last week. It will intriguing to see how good he actually is at this point.
The Running Backs
Mike Cox has had probably the best spring so far, but it's still anyone's race. Hopefully a dominant running back or backs will emerge.
My eye is still going to be on Fitz Toussaint, as I think he may end up being the most complete back. Remember the fact that Steve Slaton didn't become the starter until after the season began in 2005.
Stephen Hopkins has had some good days, and Michael Shaw has high expectations that are being placed on him so this is going to be a solid competition.
Physical Play
Hard hitting is the name of the game. All eyes should be on the offensive line and the defensive front seven, as well as the safeties.
Expect to see a more physical team up front and across the middle of the defense. With guys like Cam Gordon, Thomas Gordon, Vlad Emilien, and Justin Turner mixing in the secondary, hopefully the defense will show better tackling and harder hitting Saturday.
William Campbell has had a great spring with his size, strength and athleticism, so hopefully the defensive line will allow the linebackers and safeties to play in space.
To all the players and fans Saturday...Good luck, and Go Blue!
